tourist visa and k-1 visa

I think it used to be a big no-no to get a tourist visa while trying for the k-1 visa..

I dont see any harm if my fiance was to come visit and then go back to her home country

when the interview time came up..

They say it is best to apply for the tourist Visa before you apply for the K1/K3 Visa, been several cases of people getting denied getting the tourist visa

Hi Seattle2Cebu,

When you apply for a tourist visa, you have to provide proof of significant ties to your home country, so that they would justify your return. That is tricky on itself, and more difficult if you have a fiance(e) in the US. Not "impossible"...but very difficult.

Actually it is not a problem, all the consulate may do is deny it, but then again they may approve the tourist visa. Just show strong ties back home.

I've read it is nearly impossible for a filipino to get a tourist visa. Owning property, esteemed status, lots of money and ties that would guarentee their return to phils are required.

Well, it's not really 'nearly imposisble' because some do get tourist visa. It's all a matter of proving that the applicant has a compelling reason to go back to his country and not stay in the US permanently. They would know in the interview that a fiance is in the US and that creates the suspicion that there's an intent of immigrating (intending immigrant). It's worth a try to apply for B2 visa while K1 visa is on file but I think it's much lesser complication if you just have to be patient with the K1 processing.
