How to go about applying for EAD in person at the Chicago office? Can it be done, I've done every google search I can think of and I can't come up with anything useful, my husband needs to get a job asap, he's going crazy stuck at home, and its only been 1 week!

The "Chicago office" is not much more than a glorified mailroom and all files are subsequently transfered to the National Benefits Center in Missouri.

They stopped local EAD's a long time ago... if they still did them we would all be doing it....

YMMV

Walk in EAD was discontinued well over a year and a half ago.

If you wanted to work so bad you should have considered not doing the K-3 and stuck with just filing I-130 and gone CR-1, that visa generates the green-card upon entry allowing work.

Well that sucks!

Thanks for your help, no wonder I couldn't find any info!

We couldn't do CR-1 because we haven't been married for 2 years, and the embassy officers told us to do the k-3 because it would be faster!

CR-1 is for people married LESS than 2 years, IR-1 is for people married MORE than 2 years.

Someone told you wrong.

K-3 tends to be Slightly quicker than CR-1 for processing in most cases.

Lawyers LOVE recommending the K-3, they can charge more for the extra paperwork, and hope to get involved when the couple goes to adjust status later, more paperwork and fees, like $1010 now for AOS.
