Today my wife got her visa, and she sent me copy, when I look at the expiration date its shows one year from today on Oct 4, 2008.

Has the embassy made a mistake?

I thought K-3 visa was good for 2 years?????

You asked a question and YuAndDan gave you a very good reason why the visa could be only valid for 1 year.... as this is not the answer you are looking for and feel that you do not wish to hear from other who might not know what they are talking about then maybe instead of contacting a internet immigration forum for your answers you should stick to contacting the embassy..... After all we all know that the embassy know what they are talking about... dont they!!!!!!

Thats a new one on me, a 20 year passport, most countries issue 5 or 10 year passports.

Call the consulate, they may have made a mistake when typing in and printing out the visa.

Or better yet check the reciprocity table for your country, DOS indicates K-3 is a 12 month one for your country, most other countries indicate 24 months.

I guess RON123 has no retort to the DOS Uzbekistan Reciprocity Schedule which clearly shows 12 month K-3, this is what Department of State set for that country, and is why their K-3 is a 1 year one.

YuandDan's original response was certainly not to tell you the reason and provide "false information". He was simply giving a possible reason for it and asking if that happened to be the case with yours.

Why are you writing in all caps?

For the most part I quote official sources, and not fire from the hip and post things I dont know anything about, I research my answers before posting.

A person can have a passport with as little as 90 days validity left on it before the visa interview, and the consulate WILL set the visa expire to the passport expire date, thus mu first answer.

Your giving us more to go on, prompted me to dig into the DOS website for an answer.

Thank you by the way for doing a timeline, it gave me enough info to research an answer, many posters post questions like this without filling in their profile details, or doing a timeline, so I would then had to stop with FWAGUY's post of saying call the embassy and ask.

You can tell by my post count, and looking at my past posts I am one of the ones who researches answers and provides links to those answers, inorder to avoid posting false info, FWAGUY and Niagaenola are two others who know what they are talking about.

The visa was issued for a 12 month validity due to the current reciprocity agreement with Uzbekistan.

I'm not certain, but I beleive her legal status on her I-94 at entry will still be 24 months for a K3 visa. The one year may impact only the time she has to enter the US after the visa is issued.

Well, I'm certain about the visa validity but not certain about the I-94, which could end up being far more important. I doubt the OP's spouse intends to wait more than 12 months to come to the USA.

If they intend to file AOS right away, it probably doesn't matter but unless a better attitude is displayed, I won't be spending anymore time researching. The OP is on their own.
