It would have been nice to see a post that provided reasoned argument, but hey you can't have everything.
Where's your post containing a reasoned argument? All you've been able to put up are a bunch of suppositions that ignore one very central fact: That any and all government run socialized systems in comparable countries outperform the private system in the US in efficiency. We pay by far the most for the least overall in return.
I disagree with that blanket statement. Some countries may be better, but all? No.

Based on what do you disagree? Which comparable nation has a cost / effect ratio worse than that of the US? Name one and let me see the numbers.

Watch out, you might get accused of insulting him for asking that...

People will continue to ... leave one lined answers they think are "smart".

Speaking of which. Some people, believe it or not, can't even contribute a whole line anymore...

Hell, I've mentioned this so often I feel like a broken record.

Gary is just very skilled at ignoring what doesn't support his factually unfounded claims.

ah yes, but when *I* do it, it's called insulting & I bring nothing to the conversation. Funny, that.

The fault lies with the intention - you either believe that ALL human beings have a right to basic medical care or you don't.

sb22feb07.gif

So you don't believe that each human has a right to live, Charles....that's your choice. However, the reality is that emergency rooms don't turn away people because they don't have insurance...and those costs are added to the premiums that we all pay for. The reality is, we all end up paying for those who can't pay. Given that fact, I'd rather pay for cheaper, preventive care rather than emergency room bills for the uninsured.

i really don't know how you get that from my post steven.

maybe some should think about what jfk said........

ask not what your country can do for you....

Your cartoon implied that healthcare is an entitlement, yes? At what point do we help someone who needs medical care even if they can't pay for it and when do we turn them away - in your opinion?

it is an entitlement. and it's apparently one many feel they are entitled to, yet why is beyond me. all i hear is gimme gimme gimme and "it's my basic right"." that's what our society is all about it seems, me me me me. so what can you do for your country instead of what your country can do for you?

and to answer your question - if someone can't pay, darwin is at work ;) life sucks, get used to it.

Well, you guys got a bit heated there and even personal at some point. Without pointing any fingers, that wasn't helpful.

So, you'd let a person waste away just because the person happens to be poor? That's cold.

Sure. It doesn't help anyone's argument to avoid questions asked or make it personal, regardless of who brings them up.

Good thing you got that free healthcare in the service. (Only until you retired of course.)

You have the wrong idea about me lady. I just don't want a big bloated federally run UHC system. I have seen first hand the results of hospitals not giving care because of lack of money. Luz came within hours of dieing because she needed an operation and the hospital wouldn't admit her until I sent the money once. I have seen people bleeding to death on the sidwalk in front of a hospital in Indonesia because they didn't have the money. Don't give me your guilt trip because I don't need it. I think there are better ways than to have the government take over the whole show. It seems that unless I agree with those that want the government to take over the entire thing I will be labeled as a monster. Well you can stick that where the sun don't shine.

I want a different way to do things. Reform the insurance industry to make insurance portable, eliminate the pre-exisiting condition clause in insurance and make a state run program like we have in Illinois for children to cover those that don't have insurance.

As you seem to prefer the bigger and more bloated privately run system. I still can't quite figure out why but I guess you just like lining the pockets of those that need it the least not just at your own expense but also at the expense of those that really can't afford it.
