There are no instances of emergency/acute patients being left on Gurneys in countries that have universal health care. The problem areas lie in waiting times for non urgent care. It's a well known fact that there is a large percentage of the US population that don't even seek care for non urgent conditions. I am sure that all those people would like to at least be on a waiting list.

I have read the argument, I haven't seen much emotional blather, except perhaps from you when something someone posted seems to get you a little excited.

You should talk to Carol about people dieing on gurneys, her mother did die from public care in Sao paulo! she was left in a hallway till the doctor could see her,she was told she had a infection and given anti biotics and was told to go home. She got home and was in the bathroom when she came out she collapsed on her mother and died. They found out later she was bleeding internally.

That's terrible, Marc, but it would be difficult to pinpoint where the deficiency lies. I'd personally like to see a healthcare system where everyone can have insurance regardless of income, but one which people can choose their health insurance provider.

I agree, we need non politicians involved and a huge amount of discussion. Still scary though. Once it gets rollin there aint know stoppin it.

There's common ground here - I think we all agree that everyone needs some kind of health insurance, while at the same time we don't want to compromise the qualities in our current healthcare that do exist.

I would be interested in anything that does not involve the federal government. State government yes, federal government no. I think the best way would be to reform the insurance industry to allow portability and to reduce the pre-existing condition thing. For those that don't have insurance then some sort of a state run assistance program similar to medicade would work. Make it means tested and have at least some payments come from the people that benefit from it even if it's only a few dollars a month for the truly indigent. But don't let the federal government get their greedy hands on any of it.

sorry on the post about romania,

fortunatly i saw different in the almost 2 years i lived there. Not to mention my mother inlaw is a nurse in the hospital there, and my husbands uncle is a surgeon. ive seen alot in the hospitals and they treat and help ppl there a heck of alot better than they do here. poor or rich, i never saw different treatment, medically or personally. Let me also point out there is no charge for emergancy care, and sometimes none for private doctor.

The fault lies with the intention - you either believe that ALL human beings have a right to basic medical care or you don't.

Well done Britty, you left them spewing emotion based blather. If UHC ever becomes reality, I think the very same people here promoting it, will be the biggest whiners. Thanks again Britty for the well articulated posts.

Onward and upward!

thank you kindly CarolsMarc.... I am done posting on this thread but I do appreciate your support. People will continue to shoot me down and leave one lined answers they think are "smart". It would have been nice to see a post that provided reasoned argument, but hey you can't have everything. All the posts attacking mine were indeed based on emotion so I suppose I should have only expected to hear lots of nonsensical ranting. Cheers !!

One can only surmise, that CarolsM and Britty were reading an entirely different thread. Personally, I am not impressed by what you seem to think is irrefutable argument, or your 'I have said what I think and everyone else is a fool' post.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I think there have been many reasoned arguments based on personal experience with UHC as well as the bad economics of the US system but I guess you 2 will only see what you want.

Where's your post containing a reasoned argument? All you've been able to put up are a bunch of suppositions that ignore one very central fact: That any and all government run socialized systems in comparable countries outperform the private system in the US in efficiency. We pay by far the most for the least overall in return.

I disagree with that blanket statement. Some countries may be better, but all? No. This is the USA. Our government is different than the other countries. We are also bigger and have a larger, more diverse population than most other countries. What works there will not necessarily work here. The state level is more efficient. And the state level is the way most things should be taken care of. That is the way our government is set up.
