I'm still waiting for an answer to Reinhard's question a few pages back.

You better pull up a chair. I've asked that question many times - not just in this threat - and it is consistently being ignored. It's simply an inconvenient fact that the supporters of the excessively expensive and inefficient profit oriented system don't like to deal with.

Aye, but one can always hope for an answer....someday. ;)

I think I did answer it. I have zero faith in the US Federal Government to run a national health care program. What we will end up with will be bloated inefficient and in the end bankrupt the USA. Just look to any other government program for your proof.

As to the other countries with UHC. I see story after story about people waiting for treatment until death, the government rationing services and people coming to the USA to get treatment. Those plans may have started out OK but they are falling apart.

Gary, would you support the idea of every man, woman and child has adequate health care regardless of income....as long as it's not federally operated?

yes

Healthcare costs are very expensive, many pay too much and many can not pay.

Why is the answer for the Government to take over? Why can't they govern?

Do we really want the Government taking over things like this? What about Dental, do we need them to take that over? Soon we say everyone needs a house to live in. Real Estate costs too much. Next the Government takes over that. Where does it stop? How about it should never start (yes, I know it has in some areas and I know the Government already provides healthcare).

Also, I would like to say I side with Gary on most of what he said here. It took me an hour to catch up on all of this so that's the least I could do after spending all that time is agree with someone. However, I'm for bringing back public hangings and putting peoples heads on a stick so what do I know ...

And I can provide you with story after story about how well people have been treated by the very same system. Can't really criticize when one hasn't actually used it.

I guess I need to repeat for the nth time. I don't trust the federal government to run our health care. That is what I have always said. I have also said that I would listen to a proposal to reform the insurance industry. I am also willing to listen to a proposal for a state run system. I just don't trust the federal government.

Getting back to the OP. It really proves my point. They want to fund a health care plan with a cigarette tax!!!! That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard from!! The very thing that is running up our health care costs is now funding a health care plan!! Does anyone else see the stupidity in that? But because Bush vetoed it he is now cast as some sort of a monster. That is one of the reasons why I don't trust the federal government to run this thing!!!!

I can do the same for the way we do things here.

A 50/50 proposition? Sounds kinda like what this argument is about.

I wish the federal government would just go back to doing what is spelled out in the constitution. Everything else is the states responsibility.

I am sure you can. Heck, I can too, I've been treated very well here for a myriad of problems......thanks to my excellent insurance that I am very fortunate to have. Who I worry about are my hardworking friends who don't have that luxury.

I have a problem with funding from another cigarette tax also. It seems like a band-aid idea rather than a legitimate solution.
