you're the one who needs help reading.

I went to college (2 degrees) - I can assure you they make you read big books there. Does that still make me lazy?

You need to ask for a refund. Go back and re-read what I wrote. NM You will just believe what you want anyway.

What is sad Marc, is that you have a comprehension deficit. I haven't castigated anyone's beliefs. I have merely pointed out that my understanding of Christianity is that it is a religion that seeks to help those who are in need. There is no new testament stories that advocate go it alone because it makes you stronger or that the poor are poor because they are idiots, lazy or ingrates.

I don't belive that I said that being self reliant is a Christian value. I said my faith has given me the strength to do what I have to do. As for charity I do that plenty. I am not going to get into it but I have a feeling that I have helped more poor people here than most. If you want a laundry list of what I have done then PM me. You might be suprised.

WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're talking about UHC, not charity.

And I wasn't talking to you was I? Get over yourself.

Let's see, you have 3 ego stroke stories in here already, how many more do I get to read? I aspire to have my own pedestal one day.

You need a reading comprehension class I think.

Some gems from today - pulled for easier reading comprehension...(from a currently uninsured, college-educated person)

Since you don't know my personal position then you can't really understand. But I have had to deal with insurance not covering pre-existing conditions and I have also lost jobs. But I took care of myself and my family without crying that the rest of the country should take care of me. I have had in the past substancial out of pocket expenses and I did the right thing and paid them myself. Thats the problem with the world today, everyone expects hand-outs and easy way outs.

To bad it seems others are not willing to act like responsible adults and take charge of their own lives.

Some people don't see the poor as unfortunate, but rather as having made bad decisions/not worked hard enough and therefore they deserve to be "punished".

Thats it although I don't see it as punishment but rather living with the consequences of their actions. I was at one time of the "unfortunate". Living in a car, no health insurance and living on handouts. I was there because of my own bad decisions and I got out of it by my own hard work. There is nothing special about me, if I can do it anyone can. I don't see why I should have to take responsibility for others that are not willing to do what it takes to make their lives better and instead insist that those that are working pay for everything they want.

It's a fallacy, beloved by some, that the majority of those in trouble are there because they are lazy. Maybe you believe that because you have never been around people like this? I don't know, but it is sad that you do believe that to be true.

If it's not laziness then what is it? This is America. We have all the opportunities that anyone could ask for. It makes me want to vomit when I see people saying they have no choice but to be poor. (points to Ionescu's post)

Your going to school? Then you are taking your future into you own hands. At some point you will no longer be poor. No one promised that it will be instant. I worked 3 jobs for years, lived from hand to mouth supporting myself, wife and 3 kids and stuck with it. The pay-off came in time and if you stay with it you will also make it.

Forgive me but I think that if things come to easy then they are not appreciated as much. The struggle is what makes you strong. When something is expected and just given with no sacrifice involved then that is taken for granted. Much like the way we have it in America right now. Compared to a lot of the world we are in heaven but because it's alway been there we have people that think they way we do things stinks. It all comes down to working hard for what you want and then being thankful for it once you get it.

Part 2.....

I live what I preach and will take what comes. I have faith that my hard work and planning will carry me through the adversities of life but if the Lord decides to test me further then I will continue to live by my values and do what I have to do. I am called heartless and "not a nice person at all" because of my values but I don't care. I know that I am right and the castigation of others is just the last refuge of someone that has nothing else to offer.

cas·ti·gate

–verb (used with object), -gat·ed, -gat·ing. 1.to criticize or reprimand severely. 2.to punish in order to correct.

Aren't you the one castigating any one less fortunate that you for being lazy?

No, I am just pointing out that one should take care of themselves rather that depending on others. Not wanting a socalist co-dependant country isn't castigating the poor, it's defending the very values that made America great. The poor are that way for a reason. I can point out success stories from every walk of life and from every circumstance. The difference between those that made it and those that didn't is personal will and self reliance. If you don't like that, tough.

Gary, I understand your opinion - personal responsibility. I don't think anyone's endorsing the idea of not making people responsible. The question is how do measure or quantify personal responsibility? When can differentiate personal responsibility with events that effect someone's health to the point of needing medical care?

Repeating what I said and comprehension isn't the same thing. Thanks for proving my point.

You better pull up a chair. I've asked that question many times - not just in this threat - and it is consistently being ignored. It's simply an inconvenient fact that the supporters of the excessively expensive and inefficient profit oriented system don't like to deal with.
