Gary - did/do your 5 kids go to public school or are you paying tuition for private school?

Not much choice there. My property taxes are compulsory so I sent them to public schools. So what is your point?

BAIT

I know. But I will let him rant. It will not change the way I think and it will make him feel better to think he has a point.

HIM? Robin is a not a him....

I know that I am right and the castigation of others is just the last refuge of someone that has nothing else to offer.

oh good god, get over it!

Aren't you the one castigating any one less fortunate that you for being lazy?

No, I am just pointing out that one should take care of themselves rather that depending on others. Not wanting a socalist co-dependant country isn't castigating the poor, it's defending the very values that made America great. The poor are that way for a reason. I can point out success stories from every walk of life and from every circumstance. The difference between those that made it and those that didn't is personal will and self reliance. If you don't like that, tough.

How is 'the difference between those that made it and those that didn't is personal will and self reliance' NOT blaming the less fortunate (not even the poor, just the middle class and self-employed)? It's sounding to me like you're saying to my friend, or Ionescu, or anyone approaching middle age and finding that their private health care isn't working that it's their fault because they didn't have the will to, I dunno, fail to get cancer.

I'm hardly going to rant - I just think there's a little hypocrisy going on there.

None at all. I don't like the fact that property taxes support schools. It makes for uneven education between affluent and poor areas.

That the childless are also paying property taxes and effectively subsidizing your choices.

I know, and I disagree with they way it's done. The childless shouldn't have to pay for educating other peoples children.

Doesn't that help make the education a big bloated mess like socialized meds would? Under your theories, it would.

From your story, I can see why you believe this. However, in reality, this simply isn't true. It's also somewhat sad to me, that you use Christianity to buffer this belief when one of the core messages of Christianity is extending aid and succour to the weak and needy.

Not to mention I can't say I've ever heard Gary mention God before.....Certainly not nearly as much as I've felt the prohetizing in THIS thread....

Just because I don't wear my faith pinned to my shirt doesn't mean I don't have a very deep conviction of my faith.

Well, in the year & a half I've been on here, I've never heard you mention it before. Kinda strange, that.

According to Charles we all shoulda joined the military to get free health care.:lol::lol:

you should give it a go. ;) but i know, if it's not free you're not interested.

No social health care plan is free. Unless maybe your are retired, or poor. Or been in the military for long enough.

free while active duty, it's not free either once you retire ;)

 And that benefits your point how?

What is sad Marc, is that you have a comprehension deficit. I haven't castigated anyone's beliefs. I have merely pointed out that my understanding of Christianity is that it is a religion that seeks to help those who are in need. There is no new testament stories that advocate go it alone because it makes you stronger or that the poor are poor because they are idiots, lazy or ingrates.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

It's compulsory for me too. Has been for years. Only I did not and still don't have any kids to send to school. There are many that share my pain. So, in a way, we are paying part of "your" way here. Which is alright because schooling kids serves a common good. As does keeping the population healthy. ;)

We are getting way OT here. The point of all this is that the government has no business taking over the national health care. If you want to reform insurance then fine, I would support a fair plan. But I will NEVER, under any circumstances, support a national health care system in this country.

And it is. The way our public schools are run is a disgrace.

And you pointed out that IT GOES AWAY after you retire. Defeats your whole join the service, get free healthcare - but only while you serve - point, no?

Sorry I didn't get on my pulpit and preach to you from the begining. My faith is my business and I don't trumpet it around. But it does guide my values.

Since America is so not living up to your (impossible) standards, why not leave? Maybe when Hillary becomes Pres you'll go.

oh, I don't question your faith, or anyone's for that matter. I am simply pointing out when it suited you, you tried to use it as a measure of your godliness.

Why trumpet it now then, Gary?

Quite the contrary, health care should not be at the mercy of profit driven organisations. It's not going to promote good health for anyone. Govenment should concern itself with things that are to the public good. Education, health, judicial matters, etc.
