Guys, someone mentioned writing a letter-I offered to write a letter. As for my purposes, I am actually content at the moment with our circumstances and have not yet reached the point where I am inspired to act on it. If nobody wants a letter, that's fine with me. Heaven knows I have enough on my plate at the moment with just everyday life. To be honest, this proposed immigration reform hasn't irritated me as much as it has irritated some of you. As far as I'm concerned, as long as they don't jump in line in front of me for a Visa, they have no effect on me, my life, my job, my fiance, or our immigration case.

That's your only concern about illegal immigration???? Is that they don't jump ahead of you in line? You don't have any feelings on the fact that it's illegal and wrong that they are crossing the border illegally??

It drives me nuts when words are put into my mouth. Let me spell this out nice and clear now. I never said I didn't have a problem with illegal aliens crossing the border illegally. What I DID say-and this is ALL I said-was that they don't have an effect on my life, my job, my fiance, or our immigration case. Neither do child rapists, but I also have a problem with them.

apathy. that's what you are doing. it's apathetic. You can't expect anything to change if you "come to terms" with the fact that something is wrong and broken.

Nothing is going to change. Not for the illegal aliens, and not for our situation. You all will see. All this tizzy is for nothing.

there was some mention of hooking up with other groups of immigrants. Like in St. Louis there are "societies" of legal immigrants. My step father belongs to the Spanish Society and Iknow they have one for Danish immigrants, and all other immigrants by group.

And do what? Organize rallies with these other groups? How would that be organized with people from all over though?

I believe the person who brought it up (not me) said something about finding regional groups like that from all over. Things like that.

I don't know what we should do, I just know that we should do something. Coupled with the fact that now that USAToday article came out about marriage fraud, our voices should be heard in some way.

I think there are several ways to try to get attention on the stories of those who are having a horrible time getting their loved ones here the legal way versus the protests that are going on. The word is "try" though, it's not a definite solution, but no one will know what works/doesn't work until trying every avenue.

Whoever is passionate about doing something about it should do something as an individual and also as part of a group(if they want to). I'd try every way possible, not just one way. I'd call my local congresswoman's office where you do actually get to talk to a real person and ask what they think would or wouldn't make a difference in getting attention. I'd also start emailing or calling every local news station to see if anyone is interested in the story of real people trying to get loved ones here legally. I'd also start writing to or emailing the national news stations to see if anyone bites. I'd write letters to senators, etc. All it takes is a try. No guarantees but atleast a try. Who knows if anyone will care about the story, but it's better to know if they don't than to just talk about doing something, ya know? Just bother people until they(media, govt) listen or they say "leave us alone". :content:

I just think it's a good idea. I've been tossing it around for quite some time. Regardless of what happens with the reform stuff, I still might organize it if I can find the time. System's still broke!

lol.. she's honest at least.. the whole concept of 'lets do something, what happened to our rights, ayyy' is usually BS.. people like to do this for its own benefit.. she doesn't think the bill will affect her, then what's the problem? the concept of 'worrying' for a whole group is usually a charade lol.. human beings are selfish.. and we try to help ourselves only, but we disguise it with 'its unfair to all of us' instead of 'its unfair for me'..

thats why I dont care either.. yesterday some amigos were protesting in the parking lot in the strip mall where my store is.. they came in and asked me 'hey u wanna protest'? and i was like.. na.. im working, and i really don't care.. so.. Im honest too.. doesn't affect me.. doesn't benefit.. there's nothing for me.. end

So make THAT your argument! They may not jump in front of you...but they MAY. We don't know that for sure. You seem to be running hot and cold with this... in one thread you were angry and frustrated, but now nonchalant... oh well...

It does upset me yes, because the whole concept is unfair. However, I have come to terms with the fact that the system is broken and unfair and it behooves me to accept that fact. I have always said I don't begrudge anyone a Visa-as far as I'm concerned, let them who want Visas have them, so long as they don't cut in line.

apathy. that's what you are doing. it's apathetic. You can't expect anything to change if you "come to terms" with the fact that something is wrong and broken.

I think that all idea should be in the same place.... especially if you want a large group of people to participate. Which is the only thing that will gain attention IMO is a large movement, not a single letter.

I'm at a loss as to how to organize a group of people from all over the country...seems the written medium is all that can join us together...so does that mean a petition formed and passed on to all the reps of all the participants? I dunno...

there was some mention of hooking up with other groups of immigrants. Like in St. Louis there are "societies" of legal immigrants. My step father belongs to the Spanish Society and Iknow they have one for Danish immigrants, and all other immigrants by group.

I think, as I said in the other thread, that's the way to go. I would become active in organizing a march in Chicago (it's the big city closest to me), but I'm still caught in Europe for the moment. There are lots of groups out there who would probably be interested in joining some form of protest against current immigration laws. Important for such an alliance would be the presence of a sizable amount of immigrants. Recent immigrants, who actually understand what is going on and why the system doesn't work would be great, but anyone who has an interest in supporting immigration would work too.

The way to start is to network within certain regions. And if we can have VJ-meet-ups, we can certainly also meet to protest something together.
