It's basically a story-based presentation.

For example, it shows you:

MissLiss's story, Charmac7's story, Shonjaved's story, etc.

Along with a summary and an explanation of the purpose.

I forgot to mention what the purpose actually is...it is three fold...it is to bring to the attention that

a. the system is broken

b. it is hurting numerous individuals and families

c. something needs to be done about it

presented to whom? how long? will someone want to read a compilation of long stories?

I'm quite sure my reps never read my letters I sent throughout the process and won't read the ones just sent...just their flunkies...with the amount of mail they receive, how would you make the point, up front that your stories are worth reading, unique, compelling?

and how do you go about chosing who you are writing about? everyone has their own unique stories that are compelling in their own ways, some of which details have never been shared on here.

True but since we have to pick, I think Miss Liss's list is a good one.

I think I'll stick with the plan that the others were talking about in the other thread. Kinda more realistic than a 15 page novel being read by a congressman....

Plus it's more represenative of everyone going thru the process.

It doesn't have to be a novel. Each 'story' can be summed up in 2-3 sentences.

For example wrt shonjaved... how long they've been waiting, what stage they're in right now and how long they've been in it. For all stories, common emphasis of how they're following the rules and not sneaking across the border.

That's fine. It was just an idea.

MissLiss,

If you can actually get your letter in front of a Senator, I say you follow up with it. My story is boring and uneventful but there are many stories on VJ that would make really good material.

Faith, I have made a list of 5 individuals, not including myself, who I would like to have write their stories.

well, if that suits your purposes, then do it... I kinda agree on the length being a hinderance, but that shouldn't stop YOU from getting your story out there if that's what you feel is best.

the problem is...there were no real ideas bounced back and forth on that thread...just a bunch of "I'm in"

so do we move the ideas over there, or keep them here?

Guys, someone mentioned writing a letter-I offered to write a letter. As for my purposes, I am actually content at the moment with our circumstances and have not yet reached the point where I am inspired to act on it. If nobody wants a letter, that's fine with me. Heaven knows I have enough on my plate at the moment with just everyday life. To be honest, this proposed immigration reform hasn't irritated me as much as it has irritated some of you. As far as I'm concerned, as long as they don't jump in line in front of me for a Visa, they have no effect on me, my life, my job, my fiance, or our immigration case.

I think that all idea should be in the same place.... especially if you want a large group of people to participate. Which is the only thing that will gain attention IMO is a large movement, not a single letter.

So make THAT your argument! They may not jump in front of you...but they MAY. We don't know that for sure. You seem to be running hot and cold with this... in one thread you were angry and frustrated, but now nonchalant... oh well...

It does upset me yes, because the whole concept is unfair. However, I have come to terms with the fact that the system is broken and unfair and it behooves me to accept that fact. I have always said I don't begrudge anyone a Visa-as far as I'm concerned, let them who want Visas have them, so long as they don't cut in line.

That's your only concern about illegal immigration???? Is that they don't jump ahead of you in line? You don't have any feelings on the fact that it's illegal and wrong that they are crossing the border illegally??

I'm at a loss as to how to organize a group of people from all over the country...seems the written medium is all that can join us together...so does that mean a petition formed and passed on to all the reps of all the participants? I dunno...

That doesn't mean we as individuals shouldn't be making the connections with our reps too AND if necessary, drafting letters for our family and friends to use to send to their reps.

apathy. that's what you are doing. it's apathetic. You can't expect anything to change if you "come to terms" with the fact that something is wrong and broken.

there was some mention of hooking up with other groups of immigrants. Like in St. Louis there are "societies" of legal immigrants. My step father belongs to the Spanish Society and Iknow they have one for Danish immigrants, and all other immigrants by group.
