I think it is crazy.... illegal immigrants are given preferance over those who try to do things the right way!!!! But then I never did think Bush has all his wits about him... think he is rather slow

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

Conditional Green Card dated 24th October 2007

I-751 posted on 6th August 2009

Received on 7th August 2009 in VT

Haha, if you think the Democrats have anything else in mind, you'd be wrong.

Speaking of speaking Spanish...

I was noticing on the news when they showed the illegal immigrant rallies that they were all chanting in Spanish.

Did anyone else find this odd?

I mean, not all illegal immigrants speak Spanish. Who is actually being represented at these rallies?

It doesn't seem like the general illegal immigrant population to me...

You need to ask?

Whining on this board is not going to accomplish much in regards to changing the laws. Make your voice heard.

That is one of the few things we can agree on!

My Russian wife could not even get a tourist visa to come visit me before we were married. Many of my Belarusian relatives have been denied tourist visas to come visit their American relatives. Why? Because our American immigration and employment laws are so f*cked up that the US embassies cannot trust foreigners to return home if they allow them in on a temporary tourist visa.

It is too ridiculously easy to live, work, thrive, and survive illegally in America.

This retarded situation will NEVER change until the US government cracks down hard on the border hoppers, visa violators, and absconders. HR4437 is what we need...not anymore amnesties.

I have bombarded the offices of my 2 Senators and House Rep with a sh*tload of FAXs, letters, e-mails, and phone calls. They damned well know my position on this issue.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

For anyone wondering what HR4437 is, check out this summary - http://www.justiceforimmigrants.org/HR4437.html

I don't have a huge problem with any of this.

Well said. If anything, talking to other people on an issue may allow us to develop our thoughts on the matter.

I totally agree with you, but if the same things are said over and over and over again, it might be the moment to contact your representatives or start a rally or even better do both before starting just another thread on this issue. I, for one, will get directly involved in this once I'm back in the US because of what I've read here and elsewhere.

Peejay, I don't like a particular aspect of that HR4437 which states that those who were undocumented would be barred from future re-entry. Surely you can't agree with that? What about the many people on this board who have brought their previously undocumented husbands back after filing Waivers? Should they-and actually I'm included in this group-not be allowed this opportunity?

on speaking Spanish.

The only reason I ever learned was that I was required to take some foreign language when I was in HS and College in order to graduate. A friend suggested Spanish as I was told that it was easy.....as opposed to French, Italian, German, or whatever else was available.

Not true!!!! It is not easy. The grammar is much more complicated than English grammar, and the use of they subjunctive speaking mode takes a year to get a feeling for. Native Spanish speaking dont even realize they use it.

The easy thing about spanish is that the vowels always have the same pronunciation...if you can see a spanish word you will know how to pronouce it after you understand the pronunciation rules.

The hard part about learning English for them are the many sounds that the English vowels can have and is learned basically by memory....they will never understand why words like HOST COST MOST LOST POST etc dont rhyme and want to know the rules for pronunciation.....good question.

Also English has more irregulars in the past tense....other than that.....I still think that English is easier than Spanish.\

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

Keep in mind the large number of members this board has...with an issue this heated, there is bound to be duplicates from people who aren't searching around looking for posts on the topic they are interested in. *shrug*

And maybe for anyone who hasn't written a letter yet, we should have someone who is good at letter writing provide an example for people to model their own letters after...
