So after holding our lives and future hostage for almost 3 years, my SO's wife is finally being forced into addressing her divorce application in court today!

The best thing that can happen is that the lawyer will persuade the judge or his wife to finailize the divorce today...the worst being he won't which means a trial date and the cost of a trip to the US.

She hung on last year because she knew he was due to return to the US..and with us not being able to get married we would be separated....so she was pretty pissed when he managed to stay here with me for another 3 years.

It will be 7pm UK time when the case gets heard in US...so I have all day to feel anxious :(

Man, we just want to be free and get on with our lives! Come on justice...give us a break!!

Aww Dawn, sincerely hope that things go your way, think you have been hanging on long enough now.

All fingers and toes crossed for you both. Hang in there girl

[The reason god put spaces in between your fingers was so another person's hands could fill it up.

Ridiculous! There's just nothing ladylike about hanging on for the purpose of revenge...gah!

What's the provision in her state for abandonment? Is there not one? Here after the couple have lived apart after one year a divorce can be filed and granted fairly quickly.....

Well she filed a no fault divorce back in Feb 05 and we have been waiting on her to finalize it....now my bloke has 'counter filed' to move it on. Hopefully, that should to it...

Well as long as there's a property settlement, it should. Can it be finalized today? I believe in this county if you go in with everything agreed, the lawmaster can call it a final hearing and ask counsel to prepare a final order.

If she turns up and agrees.. yes it can be finalized today....they have an agreement they came to last year, so as long as she still agrees to what she asked for orginally. Of course she could change her mind and go after our house (which we bought last year) and the savings we have accumulated since being together...it is all to be viewed as their marital property.... <_< there is nothing we can do about that. So if she has changed her mind, another date will be set and he will have to appear in person. Which is why I feel particularly nervous....

But like he said last night....whatever it ends up costing us in material terms, the most important thing is us being able to get married and move on....and I can dust off the visa papers

Meanwhile, do you have plenty of mood-altering liquid refreshment on hand? Might make the day go faster....

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
