All I know is that in my family, it is mandatory that one visits a doctor that has been to a reputable medical school. I guess I can see how that would be considered discriminatory.

In your family it's mandatory? hehehe What do you mean? And again, "reputable".... any school that is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education is reputable.

Yes, mandatory. :P

First thing my mother asks if I go to see a doctor is where they went to school. If I said Carol Davida University, boy would I get an earful - no joke! Reputable would have to be from this list: http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandrevi...prank_brief.php

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Ahh, I see.... well, I tend not to make too much of those kind of listings. With alomst 150 medical schools in the US, I know that the students who go to schools listed toward the bottom of the list take the same exams as the people at the top of the list. I guess I have to go to a doctor first before I can make a judgement. They could have gone to Harvard Medical School but if they have no bedside manner whatsoever and I don't feel comfortable with them....well all of their Harvard education is wasted in my eyes. *shrug* Everyone has to do what makes them feel comfortable though and if seeing your doctor come from a school at the top of the list makes you feel better, then that's what you have to do....

Not to pick on your mom, Jenn, but if your doctor is over 30, chances are the rankings have changed since then.

Well, I don't think she actually looks at the list, just joking about that. It just has to be Harvard, Tufts, Duke, etc. something she's heard of. Not saying it's rational, but to her it's "just common sense", and if I don't agree that means I have none.

Yes, as a matter of fact I see a DO now. I had an MD in the same HMO and I didn't like her as much as the DO I see now.
