Are all canadian interviews done in Montreal?

Hello all,

I am trying to wrap my head around all these costs and procedures that need to be done in order to marry my fiance. It's starting to become very overwhelming. I was just wondering, when you need to attend your interview do you have to go to Montreal, it was my understanding that they send you to the nearest embassy or w/e that is closest to you. I live in Vancouver, BC... so it will cost me about 800 dollars to fly to montreal, and with all the other costs involved... I really don't think I can afford that.

is it true that thats where everybody goes? or not?

-also does your partner have to go with you?

If you live out west like in BC, you can interview in Vancouver, just specify Vancouver on the I-129F petition.

Only 2 CONSULATES in Canada do immigrant visa interviews, Montreal and Vancouver. The EMBASSY is in Ottawa.

The Embassy is always in a nation's capital, all other units are called consulates.

Hello all,

Check the web pages for the Consulates at both Vancouver and Montrea.

I do believe that if you are married, that you have to go to Montreal. If you are a fiancee, then you can choose between Vancouver or Montreal.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

oh thanks so much!! My mom had talked to me earlier and she was certain I had to go to montreal, because everyone she knows has done it that way. So, that just pushed me over the edge. I dont think a lot of people research the different types of visas and they just get married, so that is probably where her info came from.

I am looking over the i-129f and on pg 2 question 20 it asks "Your fiance will apply for a visa abroad at the American Embassy or consulate at:" then it has a box for city and country.

is that where we will put Vancouver, canada?

Also, Does my fiance have to accompany me to the interview?

K1s and K3s are processed in both Montreal and Vancouver. It's CR1s/IR1s that are only processed in Montreal. :)

The USC doesn't need to attend the interview, but definitely has the option of doing so.

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

Not entirely accurate.
  • Both Montreal and Vancouver process K (1,2,3,4) visas
  • In the K-visa cases, you don't choose the consulate it's selected based on where in Canada you reside
  • However, it is true that all immigrant visas (for the purposes of VJ, CR-1/IR-1 and DCF) are done @ Montreal
