I did not get anything from the consulate. However, there are things you need to fill out --- basically, the I-134 affidavit of support, and if your consulate requries this (which it probably doesn't) the OF-167. It could be that your consulate is actually clued in enough to send those things to you instead of sending them to your fiancee to send to you. But I don't know, that's just a guess.

they sent it to both of us, a packet for her and a packet for me whish is why I was wondering we both need to fill out the forms or just her, I know about the affidavit of support though

I am so happy that this process is finally almost overwith but I have a few questions that I hope the kind people here at VJ can help answer. My Brazilian fiance received a packet of forms and instructions, the consulate also sent one to me here in the states. I believe they are the same packet. But with all this official/legal jargon I get really confused and was wondering if anyone could help me with this.

A few examples of my confusion:

1. Form FS-257a (One for you and one for each of your dependants)- Who is "you" and who are the dependants?

2. Form DS-156K (One, only for the fiance)- I believe this means only for my fiance and not any dependants if she had any, am I correct?

3. Form DS-157 (One for each applicant between 16 and 45 years old)- Who is the applicant?

I realize these seem like simple questions but I just want to be sure. Basically, as fas as I have understood, all the forms except the Affidavit of Support are for her to fill out correct?

Now some questions regarding the neccessary documents:

1. Birth Certificate- Do we need to bring the original and a common copy of her birth certificate?

2. Police Certificate- She is 17 years old and it says in the packet that the Brazilian government only gives police certificates to people 18 and older, she is emancipated however. Does she still require a police certificate? If so do you think the Brazilian Police will give one to her if she shows that she is emancipated?

3. We need to bring her passport and a copy of the page that contains the biographic information inside her passport correct?

4. How strict are they with all the photo requirements? I mean does everything have to be exactly perfect in the photo, it seems very difficult and unneccesary to me.

Now a more personal question which I hope I will receive good answers to, I am in College and am not working at this time, my father will be filling out the affidavit of support. I will support us after I finish my studies but am just not able to do this now, do you think this will be a problem in the interview? I really hope not.

Thank you for help. :) and I am rooting for all of you to get this over with as soon as possible and be with your loved ones

Happy weekend everyone. Hope it's as sunny and bright where you are as it is in Central Oregon.

I need help on a small item. Hopefully someone out there knows the answer.

My fiance'e must fill out the DS-156, "Electronic Visa Application Form". The first question asks for the passort number, place it was issued, expiration date, etc. It seems in Russia they have two internal passports issued to each citizen- a passport that allows them to travel between cities, and a passport that allows them to travel further distances within Russia. I know that my fiance'e will also need an international passport in order to come to the US.

So my question is this: Which passport information are they asking for on the DS-156?

I'd appreciate any input. Thanks in advance.

Can someone help please, we got our NOA2 on the 18th March 08. But we haven't heard anything since. How can we check that the london embassy has received it and are dealing with it? I tried the embassy switchboard and they told me I had to write in and really had not much of a clue what a K-1 visa was.

I really would appreciate any help as I thought I would of got packet 3 by now or at least heard something.

Thanks for any help

Hi Sarah! I'm going through the London Embassy for my fiance's visa so I might be able to help you out here. Numberous times I've rang and they've been fantastic at helping me out. If you're in the UK you can call the London Embassy on 090 42450 100 however these calls will cost £1.20 per minute. (It's worth it in my oppinion!)

They'll need your fiance(ee's) full name, date of birth and case number that the USCIS has given you. They should then give you a new case # that you will use from that point on. It could be that there is just a delay in getting the paperwork out to you.. I believe it took us about a month before we received the packet, I sent it back about 7 days ago now and have yet to hear when the interview date is. I'm incredibly impatient though!

Or call the USCIS as well to find out what's going on with your packet 3. You can download all the information on the http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/.../visaforms.html website just to get yourself a heads up with what's on packet three.. infact, London Embassy has you download them yourself anyway! They don't actually send these forms out to you. What they will send you is a check list and list of things that you need to have ready for your interview as well as the medical form that needs to be filled out and completed before you go to your medical (which I'm not certain that you can actually download anywhere - they actually send that one.)(All you will actually send back is the checklist.)

Sorry, hope this isn't terribly confusing the way i've gone about explaining it. If you have any more queries that I can help you with, I can give you my mobile number and explain it all better on the phone - just drop me an email on here to let me know.

Good Luck Sarah! Let me know how you get on!

Halle

I will try to help you with information that I have...

1) Form FS-257a ..Have no idea about what it actually is...I didnt have it for my interview...

2) Form DS-156K...Yes..It is for your fiancee...She has to fill out this form,BUT she has to sign it before consular at her interview...

3) Form DS-157 ...Never heard about that form either..Did you mean DS-156??? If yes, she will need two of DS-156...This form is on 3 pages with barcode...She can find it here http://evisaforms.state.gov/

4)Yes,you have to fill Affidavit, she just has to show it at the interview...

1)Birth Certificate....She has to bring original birth certificate alone with copy...If it is not in English,it has to be translated to English...

2) She has to have a valid passport and copy...Also she has to have pictutes 5sm/5sm( 2/2)...

3)If your father will support you...he has to be a co-sponsor...You will need letter from employer, bank account, his W-2 2007,and also Affidavit of Support from him...

Woohoo! We got our interview date. May 27. Now please let me get a flight to Vancouver using my Northwest frequent flyer miles before they merge with Delta and I lose them.

JKD, I don't know much about having a cosponsor since it isn't an issue for us, but I believe you and your father would each have to fill out the I134. DS157 is for men ages 16 to 45, something about military service, I'm really not sure. Are there directions for it? It does not sound like it would be applicable for you since your fiancee is female and does not have a son in that age range coming on a K2 visa. They ask for police certificates for every place she has lived for at least 6 months since turning 16, so yes, it would be required. Generally, being an emancipated minor means you are treated under the law as an adult. Whether that is the same in Brazil, and what hoops she would have to go through to prove to the police department she is emancipated, I don't really know.
