Maiden or Married name on application?

I'm wondering what name to use?

My maiden name or my new married name? I will eventually phase everything into my new married name.

I can't change my name with Social Security until I have my Visa paperwork back aand approved, so im assuming i have to keep my application in my maiden name? This way it matches with all my current papers, and passport, etc?

So far I have made everything (such as medical) in my maiden name,

MrsW.

We did Claudeth's in her married name and changed her name on her SSN once we received the EAD from the USCIS.

I filed mine with my new married name. In Florida I can't change anything until I have my permanent resident card as I didn't apply for the EAD.

I think if you travel with the AP and its in your married name and your passport is in your maiden name, you just need to make sure you have a copy of your marriage certificate with you when coming back in to the US.

I would apply with your married name in my opinion as if if you decide to change it before you remove conditions its over $300 i believe to change a name on the green card.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone else can clarify but thats what I think having read through these boards :)

P.S. My medical and everything in is my maiden name too. The only thing in my married name is the immigration paperwork and our lease. We will be trying to add me to the utilities with my married name too. Not sure if that has to be the name that matches the social security card name so we'll wait and see what happens.

I reccomend using the current legal name at all times.

  • 2 weeks later...

I sent in my AOS papers yesterday, they arrived at 9.30am this morning in Chicago.

I used my new name, and supplied evidence in both my maiden and new name.

Tick Tock.

I believe this is where the fun starts?
