Hi everyone. My fiancee just told me that in the Ukraine forum, the girls there told her that for the K-1 visa you have to buy a round trip plane ticket. They will not let you buy a oneway ticket. Is this true. Can someone that lived in Ukraine and came to the USA on a K-1 visa tell me if this is true. My Fiancee is just going on the advise of these girls in her forum. Thanks you for any help you can give us !! Jeff :help:

One way ticket is just fine

One way ticket is very expensive. If it works out with her she will still have to go home to get stuff whatever. You can hang onto the return ticket for ahwile before having to use it.

Then buy what is cheapest. Normally one ways are cheaper but on occasion round trips can cost lest. Besides, your question led me to believe that you were asking if it was manditory to buy round trip and it isn't

That would depend on when AOS is filed (which can't happen til after the marriage) since she would need Advanced Parole to leave the US before the GC is approved. AP cannot be applied for until after AOS and it takes at least three months to be approved. Would the return ticket be useful after such a time?

I am not from Ukraine, but would like to share.

You do not have to buy a round trip ticket. from Bangkok to Atlanta, I paid $927 for a one way ticket. one way tickets often are more expensive than round trip ones. but in my case, a round trip ticket would have cost me around $ 1600. I don't plan on coming back to Thailand any time soon, so I got a one way ticket.

Good luck. (F)

I dont know where you find cheaper one way tickets. All websites I checked out the one way tickets where always more. I found them in a price class of 2000-3000 dollars. Usual price from Germany for a round trip would be 600 dollars.

To get a cheap one way ticket you (usually) have to go to a travel agent who specializes in flights.

The best ones to try are student travel agents (most of these sell tickets to non-students too)

Try statravel or look in any student or expat publication in your country for ideas

Not always. Round trip tickets are generally discounted more than one way tickets. But the price generally depends on fare class, airline, when you are traveling, and how far ahead of time you buy the tickets.

It appears all to be good advice. However each country has their own set of rules. The Ukraine is unique in it's own way. So many requirements are put on you to leave that I would search for someone from the Ukraine with a similar experience and Visa. My wife has a very good friend who will come to the US in November this year. I will ask her if their are any special requirements the Ukrainian government places on K1 visa travelers. I will post her response her tomorrow. As they say in the Ukraine..... all of these US forms are worthless here.

Pras came from Hyderabad (India) to Detroit on a one-way--enough said!

Just went through this very thing. After the k1 was approved I fedex'd a 1 way ticket to Kiev for her trip this sunday.

The reason I had to FEDEX it was the website that I got my great fare on only issued paper tickets, otherwise I'm sure I would have gotten e-tickets for her, had they been an option.

Basically, RT tickets are not a requirement and the consulate is not interested in your travel arrangements. I am not aware of any requirement by the Ukrainian government and why should they care since she has a US Visa anyway.

FYI- my fare with less than a weeks notice before purchasing was $650 from Kiev to Chicago (1 way). I found fares for as low as $525 but they needed a 2 week advance. If you want the name of the website for cheap airfares PM me.

This appears to be very common as my wife had the same misconception... She kept telling me that she needed a RT ticket... I assured her that it is not true... Other than the check-in person at the airline counter, I showed no one our travel itinerary and nobody asked or cared...

YMMV
