Let me explain the situation a bit, it probably won't count for an expedited AP but I am wondering if it's worth a shot at just trying.

90 days will be 4 days after I need AP.

My brother is getting married on the 20th of this month and AP will be at day 90 on the 24th. I'm not wanting to expedite just for his wedding. I want to expedite because this will unfortunately be the last chance I will have to see some family members (VERY old in age, traveling a great distance for the wedding because they know it will probably be their last time to gather with family). My daughter is young and I want so badly for her to be able to meet these people who are important in my life and have molded me to the person I am today. She has never met any of these people and want to have her picture taken with them so that she can see she met them and I can tell her about them when she is older. I only need to travel 45 minutes from my home in the US to my family in Canada. I have the wedding invitation I could show infopass hoping for an expedited AP but I don't really have anything else to take.

Should I attempt to expedite AP and see if I am lucky enough to fall into the hands of someone who understands and grants me the AP?

I have already filed for AP in July so I would just need to take my receipt from USCIS for that and like I mentioned have the wedding invitation. But is it a lost cause to try infopass?

Just reaching out for some suggestions, trying to stay positive that I will get to see some of these people one last time. I cannot go visit them after AP comes simply because I do not have that kind of money to travel so far away (all over the country).

I say you should book an appointment and see what happens. You may find someone with a heart. Do it sooner than later, though, because it will take up to 3 business days for them to produce it. Good luck to you.

Thanks Krikit

I just needed someone to be my cheerleader so that I didn't feel alone in thinking it was worth a try! I will talk to my husband and see when we can schedule an infopass!

When scheduling infopass

Do I click:

Order from Immigration Court - If you were directed to us for processing based on an order from the Immigration Judge. You must bring all documents required in the post order instructions given to you by the court.

Case Processing Appointment - If you received a notice to go to your local office for further case processing.

EAD inquiry appointment - If your I-765 employment authorization application has been pending for more than 90 days.

Case Services follow-up appointment - If it has been over 45 days since you contacted NCSC and have not received a response to your inquiry. You must bring the Service Request ID Number related to your inquiry to the appointment.

Weird. I'm not familiar with any of those choices. Perhaps each district office is different because I chose "I wish to speak with an immigration officer" when I scheduled my appointment. But I've just checked the office I went to and it has a whole new set of choices from when I went.

Hmmm. Is there any office close by which has different choices? Maybe try the last one. What a pain.

There is only the Detroit MI office close by and thats a huge one. I suppose that no matter what i click on it for I can just tell them when I get there what I am there for exactly.

I hope haha

It's so hard living 45 minutes away from Canada and not being able to go. Especially when it is like a 2nd nature to just drive from here to there like its as natural as it is for others to drive to their job or school, crossing the border is lke that to me

Yes, as long as you bring the appointment letter they'll let you in.

I agree. That part is really difficult to deal with and most definitely an added stressor. I hope all goes well for you.

I'm from Ontario also..... midway between Toronto and Niagara. Crossing the border over the years was like going to the mall, so I understand your frustration. (F)

So glad someone understands! I can't wait for free reign between driving here and there. To me it isn't "Traveling" weird to think of it as traveling haha

CanUSACpl,

We went to an infopass appointment explaining we wanted to go visit a family member who was ill and were granted AP. They did not ask for any proof or medical evidence. I say go for it :-)

Also, just to note when we went they required 2 passport size photos, which go on the actual AP document (we had to run outside to get them done). Also bring a copy of your original AP application and NOA1 from your AP and AOS.

Good Luck

Christina

Thanks Christina,

We received an RFE so we are sending that in first so that we can go plead for infopass to hook us up lol

As soon as RFE has been received we will be going to infopass for help.

Glad it worked out so well for you!

Hi CanUsaCpl! My hubby and I were in a similar boat--we were awaiting the AP for his sister's October 18th wedding in Puerto Vallarta, I-131 sent off July 24th. I came here, got the suggestion to contact our congress(wo)man. Which I did. This lady was extremely helpful, positive and comforting to us. We had the appointment last Friday, and Monday she called us to let us know that the AP was printed out and sent off last Thursday. I came home from work, my hubby already had it in his hands. I sent this lady an email apologizing for squandered efforts but thanking her profusely nonetheless, and she wrote back completely thrilled that we received it and to have a good trip. Contact the office, don't wait another day! She told us it might take a week to 14 days to get an answer.

Incidentally, the BCIS.GOV site still has this form as pending a week later!

Good luck, all that waiting is stressful, how about it?

Thanks,

Amy

Thanks Amy

I sent you a private message with some questions but I'll post it here incase someone else has answers before you get to check your messages :star:

1. Which congress person do I contact? There are so many to pick from! State or City? Senator or Representative? Our state has 2 Senators and 15 representatives.

2. What information do I give them when I contact them?

3. Should I fax or email?

4. Does this usually help to contact them? I am desperate since infopass isnt available I am going to try whatever I can!

5. Should I write both senators and all 15 of the reps? lol, just kidding

Hey I have a few answers since I contacted a my Representative as well (not for the AP but for an RFE we received). I believe you only have 3 you can contact, the 2 senators for your state and the representative for your district. I got a response from both my Respresentative and one Senator, and went with the Representative. I think all the offices have a specific person who deals with immigration cases. I called my Representative's office (got the number off their website) and asked to speak with the person who deals with the immigration issues. I left her a brief phone message and she got right back to me. She emailed me a release form that had to be filled out, and I also wrote a detailed letter about our situation (remember they have no background). I then faxed the release, the letter, our NOA1 and a copy of the RFE to her office. Our situation was resolved within 2 weeks.

Also, I'm not sure why you said Infopass is unavailable, but if it is booked up sometimes it helps to keep trying to make an appointment. I found that if I checked (obssessively) appointments would open up on random days as people cancelled.

Best of Luck

Christina
