Steven, I want to officially and humbly apologize if you feel I was questioning your patriotism. I was not intending to do so. I have no doubt that you love this country just as much as I do. It's just that I STRONGLY disagree with your opinions when it comes to illegal aliens, the causes and the proposed cures. If I got carried away then I am publicly asking for your forgiveness. I will agree that you and I should not argue with each other about illegal aliens for a while. If I see you posting something I don't agree with then I will just stay out of it. By the same token if you see me going off in a thread about illegal aliens then you stay out of it. Deal? We can't and shouldn't ask others that have nothing to do with our disputes to curtail voicing their opinions.

I don't think engaging in the debate is the problem. It's the misrepresentation of someone's viewpoint or mischaracterization of the person themselves. The misrepresentation of someone's views is problematic but probably unavoidable - as long as it's not deliberate. I think if we just stick to the argument at hand, step back, re-type, take a deep breath before actually hitting the 'Post' button would do us all well.

I'd rather not discuss illegal immigration here - as I've said awhile ago, I was spent on the issue...however, as long as there are others who post threads on illegal immigration than I'm going to feel free to do the same and hope I can post my views without my patriotism being questioned. I have posted plenty of topics that are either politically neutral or positive in nature, so I'm not sure why you have the impression that all my posts are some form of blaming America. Nothing in the article I posted on Migration and Corn had anything to do with blaming America, but merely pointing out the causes and effects that our current trade agreement has had on migration from Mexico. If you want to continue with that discussion, you can just respond in that thread.

Perhaps a good idea but I dont think a moratorium will last though. The best thing may be respectfully is just look the other way.

I think it is a real issue that effects all of us especially those here who have spouses that are legally trying to obtain their GC and EAD through legal means, and are obeying the law, yet still are seperated from one another or waiting months even years for Visa or GC & have been shelling out 100's - 1000's of $$ to go through the immigration process legally. While other inconsiderate law breakers leach off of the US tax payers and Invade our country, enter illegally and then whine about wanting special treatment or claim to have a sense of entitlement.

Then we can touch on those USA citizens/ legal residents who live with out Health insurance or have to pay higher insurance costs mostly due to the invasion of Illegal Immigramnts draining the resources and socal services. How about the continued decline in education standards for legal residents/ citizens because these ancghor babies of illegals are laced into public schools un prepared when thier illegal parents do not PUT 1 penny into the system yet demand their children be givne extra attention or lenainacy in testing ect..

If you want to place a Moritorium on Your personal participation in immigration topics then by all means do so. You won't get those who feel strongly for their rights & strongly AGAINST ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTION to stop posting their beliefs.

The difference is that if I find you breaking into my house the law says I can put a bullet in your head. Doesn't matter if you're an illegal immigrant or born and bred redneck. There is no law yet that allows this for an illegal alien coming across the border. But you can help change that. Or you can just complain some more like you do so well and nothing will come of it. Steven is an awesome person, and indeed passionate on what he believes in, i dont think that that calls for criticizm or insults, i think we all need to stop insulting eachother when we dont agree with our beliefs and opinions. we get too upset over things when someone doesnt agree, and its not just not agreeing, it goes beyond that, and thats where feelings and ppls personalities feel crushed.

i respect steven, i respect gary, neither of them agree on illegal immigration but they are passionate on their thoughts and feelings on it, i think thats fabulous. but those differences shouldnt cause these kinds of probs. disagreeing is a natural thing, disagreeing the way VJers disagree IMO is unhealthy when it ends up in CONSTANT wars. Just an idea, but what if we all have a moratorium on any discussions about illegal immigration? It is a highly divisive issue which never fosters any kind of resolution or resolve other than people here expressing their opinions on the matter over and over again. Last night, my patriotism as an American was put into question once again, only by two people on here who I have known for awhile, like and admire on many accounts. It really has shaken me and I wondered if my opinion is no longer welcome here.

I enjoy the rapport and the heated discussions on many topics here, and I would hope that I have as much validity in stating my opinion here as anyone, as I welcome anyone to disagree by actually arguing on the merits of what I've said rather than dismissing my opinion as coming from someone who dislikes America.

So I propose that we all have a voluntary moratorium on discussing illegal immigration for awhile (say, how about the whole month of October?). That means no posted articles from peejay or WifeOfHunkyJohn. No references in other threads to illegal immigration. How about it?

Seems I'm being talked about and yet nobody had the good manners to even let me know.

The last time I posted anything related to immigration, it was on September 13th yet I find it odd that you bring up my name when you are having a bad day reading threads about illegal immigration. It's hardly like I am flooding the boards with them now, is it?

People will post what they want...if you want to participate, do...if not, don't.
