Hi all!

I moved to New Jersey to be with my fiance this past April 2007, and since then, we've gotten married, and I've also received my green card. I worked in Toronto up until end of March, and I've actually started a home based business here in the New Jersey.

Would any of you know where I can find an accountant who would be familiar with both Canadian and US law and is located in Jersey/Philly area? I'm not sure which country I'm supposed to file at, and I have other questions about my home business and eligible deductions and such.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Regards,

Karla

My financial planner is familiar with Canadian and US law and can help you out. He has lots of Canadian clients in the US. You can reach him at www.hfg.ca. In fact, he and his whole team are extremely knowledgeable, very friendly, and unbelievably responsive and efficient. I highly recommend them.

For this year you'll have to file in both countries. For Canada though, if you have no further financial ties (ie: no bank account, no RRSPs, no property etc) you can just notify them on your next tax return that you are no longer a resident and won't have to file there any more after this last one.

as for your home based business, allowable deductions will vary by state I think. A local tax accountant or tax preparer could give you information on that.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!
