How do you pronounce your name in the States?

I have notice only certain populations change their names to amore pronounceable western name.

For example, very few Japanese Change their names however a lot of Koreans adopt a western name.

I understand the reasoning behind it a lot has to do with their children being raised in public schools and having a name that is easier to pronounce.

I don't see then changing their names as giving up their identity or culture, i see it as a convenience for them to make life easier.

I was wondering, in your country your name is pronounced one way, but here people pronounce different. When you introduce yourself do you pronounce the same way that you always have, the way it is, or do you pronounce the way other people do to make it easy for them to understand?

My name is not an unique name in Brazil nor here, but it is pronounced different. In Brazil people will pronounce the ''ne'' in Nessa different than in here, and I would really like for people to pronounce the way it is, not the way they're used to pronounce here, but there's nothing really I can do about it and I know if I pronounce the way it is in Brazil some people just won't understand or ask me again and sometimes I'm just not in the mood to say it twice I just pronounce the way they do to make it easier for them.

Anyone else has the same problem?

Mine is Tasha... People in America pronounce it as Tarsha... It's not! It drives me crazy They don't pronounce cash as carsh or rash as rarsh, so why say Tarsha?

But, I am quite sure I will get used to it

It's probably because you are in the Maryland area(right?). I don't say Tarsha. And some people up there do say "warsh" for wash. They add in r's where they don't belong.

Nessa, yours would be that rhymes with mesa, unless in portuguese is not how I'd expect either.

My name, Laura, here in PR is pronounced the same (lou-rah, where the first part would sound like the lou in louder), but at work since I talk on the phone in English, I end up pronouncing it the american way (LAW-rah) or people won't understand, and then they end up upset that some latina answered the phone when the company is supposed to be american (little do they know the call center is in San Juan, and everyone who works here in puertorican).
