How do you pronounce your name in the States?

I was wondering, in your country your name is pronounced one way, but here people pronounce different. When you introduce yourself do you pronounce the same way that you always have, the way it is, or do you pronounce the way other people do to make it easy for them to understand?

My name is not an unique name in Brazil nor here, but it is pronounced different. In Brazil people will pronounce the ''ne'' in Nessa different than in here, and I would really like for people to pronounce the way it is, not the way they're used to pronounce here, but there's nothing really I can do about it and I know if I pronounce the way it is in Brazil some people just won't understand or ask me again and sometimes I'm just not in the mood to say it twice I just pronounce the way they do to make it easier for them.

Anyone else has the same problem?

yea.. my names are pedro ury.. and for some reason everybody has the biggest problem saying my middle name (which everybody knows me in MExico).. so I'm Pedro in the USA

I am the USC but my name is butchered all the time. It is an arabic name but is also fairly common in Ghana.

It is spelled Zeinab (pronounced Zay-nub) with but people end up calling me Zee-NAB or Zeina (like the b is silent). Probably doesn't help that my nick name is Zee.

My fiances name (Inusah) on the other hand is a piece of cake for everyone else.

My name is Kara (care-a) but many ppl pronounce my name, car-a. My neighbor calls me Kyra (like Tyra) but I don't have the heart to correct her. When my husband and I first met he would call me, Car-a until I went nuts on him one day. In Egypt some ppl say my name correctly but most say, Car-a. Moh's one aunt and uncle call me, Keera. Not sure where that came from.

My husband is Mohamed. It's pronounced with the emphasis on the "hamed" part (m'hamed with a breathy "h") but most ppl here call him Moe-hamed or Moe-ham-ed. He introduces himself pronouncing his name the correct way. In Egypt he's called Mohamed, Hamed or Hamada.

My ladys name is Eunice, which in English is "Unis", in Portuguese is "ee oo nee cee" totally different

My husband's name is pronounced Wadi' (Wa-DEE) in his language, but ever since he moved away from Morocco he changed it to (WA-dee), which is how I pronounce it as well since that's how he introduced himself when we met. I'm not sure why he did that, I don't think it's any easier to say it if you change where the accent falls, but whatever floats his boat. He's been talking about changing his name here to Wade, I dunno I think it's kind of dumb, but again, whatever floats his boat!

You shouldn't feel shy about asking people to pronounce it the way you want. It's probably a little harder given that 'Nessa' already has a pronunciation that people fall into, and people probably won't ever get the 'e' sound just right, but they can come closer than making it rhyme with 'ness'. Does it rhyme with anything (like 'mesa') or something that you could use to correct people kindly?

No one can pronounce my name correctly over here. My name is Sian, it's Welsh in origin and pronounced Sharn, as in rhymes with "darn"! Something to do with the American accent means that the 'h' sound combined with the very hard 'r' always makes it sound like Sean. In their heads they are pronouncing it like I am, but vocally it sounds like Sean.

I'm just going to change my name to Gladys and be done with it.

oh I won't correct people. The ''ne'' isn't like the ''le'' in ''less'', and I really don't know how to put in words.
