Urgent help regarding filling DS-230 form......

hi

i m married to USC......he is applicant ( residing in US) n myself beneficary (residing in india)........

i hv jst sent my DS-3032 form...choosing my husband as my agent....

pls help me regarding

1. now as my husband is my agent.....he'll get DS-230 form.......i wanna ask that now whether i should send the downloaded and filled ds-230 form to my hubby immidiately......

2. sud i send both DS-230 part I & II.........or jst part II

3. can i copy bar code on DS-230 form ( generated using james shortcut )

4. what to write in the space provided above the downloaded ds-230 form...extreme left side....( space same like affixing a photo)....i guess in that space bar code and case number sud b written.....am i right??

5. sud i fill form in my own handwriting or computer printed ????

1.you should download the form DS-230 and fill it and sign it and collect all the requarment papers and then send it to ur husband.but before u do that u should go here http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3176.html and select ur 3 first letters from ur case and then it will take u to another page where they will tell if u have to send just part 1 from DS-230 or both part 1 and 2.

3.you don't have to copy any bar codes in DS-230.

4.you don't right anything.you just fill the form with info and then sign just part 1 even if u have to send both parts.

5.you can fill them using handwritting or printed but I think its clearer to print them.

Yes, doesn't hurt to get it to him early. As mentioned in a previous post, it is important to check here Applicant Document Processing to see exactly what you should send to NVC with your DS-230.

Again, check Document Processing instructions at link above.

You don't add a barcode to the actual DS-230 form, however, when NVC mails out the DS-230 they also include a coversheet which does have a barcode, your case number etc. You can use James's shortcuts if you want to produce your own coversheet - the alternative is to wait for your husband to receive the hardcopy instructions/coversheet in the mail.

Yes your husband will receive the DS-230 form with the bar code sheet that he will send with the Ds230 form.

From the link provided, regarding the Passport biograpic page:

"The applicant MUST complete the documents the applicant needs to return to the NVC"

Click on the link provided on that page and it will then give you instructions on what you need to send. For New Delhi - regarding the biographic page of the passport I see:

What to send

Submit a photocopy of the biographic data page of the applicant’s and the applicant’s individual family members’ valid passports. This is the page that shows the applicant’s name and date and place of birth.

Note: Do NOT send the applicant’s passport(s) to the NVC, just the photocopy of the biographic data page.

I see nothing about it being a certified copy, it says photocopy. I know it's easy to get paranoid at this stage of the application process, but just be sure to read all instructions for each process and follow them exactly.

As for the second posting regarding the coversheet etc - you are correct.

Dear Harpreet,

You can download them. Or fill them out online and then print. There are two questions where you need to write your full married name in Hindi. Put signature on Part I, DO NOT SIGN PART II (that is to be signed when you meet for interview).

Gather you required documents.

Marriage certificate

Copy of birth certificate

passport page photo

Make sure all copies are certified by government department. If documents are in Hindi, they must be translated into English and then certified by government department that the translated document is accurate.

Then you can mail these to your husband.

Then when your husband gets the forms in the mail, he can just attach the bar code sheet (comes with a packet of forms and has your case # on it for tracking purposes) and check list to the papers you gave him and just mail the whole kit and kaboodle back to the NVC.

Now this has me wondering.

I didn't get a cover letter or barcode when I got my ds230. Was I suppose to?

For FYI, DS-230 cover page is different. I just got my DS-230 today and cover sheet is different. It's not like james shortcut.

Yes, you have it right. Your husband would compile your DS-230 with the coversheet (that has the bar code) and ALSO the CHECK LIST. The check list is for supporting documents that need to sent in along with the DS-230.

Supporting documents:

Certified copy of information page of passport

Certified copy of marriage certificate

Certified copy of birth certificate

Police clearance
