hi,

my wife and i are filing for aos. she's thai and has never had a middle name. we are using her married name (my last name) on the aos documents, but we don't know if we could/should write her maiden name as her middle.

what have most people done? are there any possible consequences either way? (adding a middle name or not adding one)

thanks

As far as I'm aware it's legal for your wife to retain her maiden name as her middle name. I know it is in Canada and I'm pretty sure it's the same here. Of course, I only heard about it AFTER I got married or I would have done the same because I don't have a middle name either.

I don't have a middle name like of "Mary Louise" or "Jamie Lyn" so I've decided to use my mother's maiden name and dropped my own maiden name. In the Philippines, if you got married, you're supposed to drop your mother's maiden name, replace it with your maiden name and then use the married name for last name. I should have done that when I applied for AOS and won't have any problem but since I love my mom and in memory of her (she died 27 years ago), I'm using her maiden name as my middle name.

For example:

My single name was Mycor Daluraya (mom's maiden name) Palad

My married name that I used for AOS is Mycor Daluraya Cash

It should have been Mycor Palad Cash if I will follow the Philippine family code but since it's not really a problem whether you have a middle name or not, I prefered using "Daluraya" for middle name.

I hope I didn't get you confused. :D

My wife has no middle name as well. Our case was approved without one.

The documents should bear her current legal name. Has her name changed legally?
