Is it possible to have the consulate defer a K1 interview? I'm thinking I'm going to go ahead and file my 129f through TSC around beginning of March, so that Syndey can receive my petition sooner. I'm worried that if I don't time it right, the consulate will schedule my interview before I've secured employment and will have paystubs ready to send to my girlfriend for the interview. I'd also like to visit Australia before her interview to build a stronger case for the CO to look at. Is it possible to push back an interview a few months, or does the DoS frown upon this? I just don't want to file later after securing employment, and then have to sit and wait while they process my case. Might as well get some of the waiting on the USCIS here out of the way. Has anyone tried this before? Did you have any luck?

There have been some who have asked for a later interview. Wouldn't it be better to secure employment first, though? Then again, as slow as CSC is lately....you would most likely secure a job first anyway. Still, I would think having a job first would be better, unless you have a co-sponsor. Sitting and waiting are what all of us are doing. I don't think you have to worry about your petition going through too fast, especially since you'll be going through Cali....Texas forwards all their petitions to Cali now. Just MHO

The beneficiary has a lot of control over the interview date, as long as she wants to move it *out*. No interview will be scheduled until the beneficiary notifies the Consulate that she is ready, so if your she is not ready, she doesn't return the notice saying she is!

The only thing you'd want to mind with this dance is the 4-month expiry on the approved petition. A quick email to the IV Unit at the Consulate telling them to keep your case alive should suffice.

It stirkes me that the funds for a flight to Oz might be better used.. or just admit you want to visit :) I don't think you need to worry about the strength of your case for Sydney.
