hi everyone...

i'm just wondering what medical exams/forms are needed for aos. some places say the 693, other places say the supplement 693A only and other places say nothing at all.

we will be getting married in a couple weeks, but we want to get the medical exam done early so that when it comes to filing aos forms, we don't need to wait.

when we go to the civil surgeon, will we need to take proof of marriage or can my fiance go before we actually get married?

hope you can help!

thanks,

kate

Are all adjustment of status applicants required to have a medical examination?

Most applicants for adjustment of status are required to have a medical examination. The medical examination must be conducted by a civil surgeon who has been designated by the USCIS. The examination must be documented using Form I-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status.

EXCEPTIONS:

2. Ks: If you were admitted to the United States as a fiance(e) (K-1), child of a fiance(e) (K-2), Spouse of a U.S. citizen (K-3), or child of K-3 (K-4), and received a medical examination prior to admission, then you do not require another medical examination as long as your application for adjustment of status (Form I-485) is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. You will, however, be required to submit a vaccination supplement with our adjustment of status application. The vaccination supplement must be completed by a designated civil surgeon.

The physical from the embassy is good for a year. You will probably need the vaccination supplemental and you can get that from a authorized civil surgeon.

I'm confused as well!

I (the alien) had the medical for my K-1 done in early December last year, and then came to the U.S. in late December. I applied for my AOS in February of this year, and have just received my interview date. With the interview date, I received some information from the adjudicating office regarding what they need from me. I'm confused due to the information that I received from them. There are two issues...

I have a checklist from my adjudicating office which has a box that is ticked that says:

Please submit evidence that you meet the VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS in accordance with the instrctions on the attached civil surgeons list. You must obtain a vaccination certification from a designated civil surgeon. The vaccination requirements apply to all applicants who filed for permanent residence after September 30, 1996.

There is a box that is not ticked on the checklist from the adjudicating office which says "Please submit a form I-693, Medical Examination for Aliens"; so I think that I do not need to do this again.

I also have a separate handout from the adjudicating office, part of which says:

All applicants for adjustment of status are required to have a medical examination. The medical examination must be conducted by a civil surgeon who has been designated by the USCIS. The designated civil surgeon is responsible for the entire medical examination, and will record the results on Form I-693. The required medical exam consists of a physical examination, a Tuberculosis (TB) skin test and a serologic (blood) test. The designated civil surgeon must perform these tests in accordance with the Technical Instructions for the Medical Examination of Aliens in the United States, published by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The form I-693 will be given to you in a sealed envelope to present to INS. You should not open the sealed envelope

So, does that mean I need the full medical exam again? The box on the checklist was not ticked, but I got the other handout anyway. Do I just need the vaccination supplement? The reason that I'm asking is that I've seen the recent horror stories here about AOS denials because of incomplete medical exams, is this what they're talking about? Or are the K-1/K-3 holders exempt from this problem?

Did you read the FAQ in the second post of this thread? I can guide you to the proper federal law too if you want.
