am a filipina who got married to a nice american...this site has helped me and my husband understand the processing my CR1. yes it took less than two years but thanks to all who shared experiences and infos. . Am here now in california waiting to deliver a baby on november.

I have a question for you friends... as a green card holder can i petition my mom?

Yes you can, but as an LPR you will be subject to visa quotas and it could take years for your number to come up. USC's are not subject to these quotas so you may wish to look at getting your citizenship

You can not petition for your mother to immigrate to the USA until you have become a US Citizen..... once you have become a citizen you can file form I-130 for her, it will take about 12 months to be approved...

You will need to wait until you can apply for Citizenship... the earliest you can file is 90 days before the the 3rd anniversary of getting your Greencard... check out the guides at the top or USCIS for more details on becoming a citizen....

ONLY CITIZENS can petition for their parents, so need to naturalize first. Green card holders are very limited in who they can petition, typically only a spouse or their own children,

Immediate Relatives of U.S. Citizens (IR): The spouse, widow(er) and unmarried children under 21 of a U.S. citizen, and the parent of a U.S. citizen who is 21 or older.

LPR's can only petition for a spouse or their children.

this is quite helpful...though I would hate my husband's mother to move here it might be the best thing for her eventually
