Museum Day is a nationwide event taking place on Saturday, September 29, 2007 where participating museums and cultural institutions across the country offer free admission to Smithsonian readers and Smithsonian.com visitors, allowing for one day only, the free-admission policy of Smithsonian's Washington, D.C.-based facilities to be emulated across the country.

I'd be wary of "free admission" days at museums. I've been downtown when the museums here were open for free and it was "standing room only!" Seriously, the place was a complete zoo. I'd prefer to pay an admission fee and have a little room to move and breathe.

Oh... and here's an interesting museum in California: The Frederick's of Hollywood Lingerie Museum.

It probably sounds better than it is. Although, it might be interesting to see the evolution of female undergarments.

Great idea - I am even a subscriber of The Smithsonian! Only, there are no Georgia museums participating! I should make our site aware of this so that next year we can be a participating site - I am sure the Board would support it because of the great advertising it offers!

I used to support International Museums Day (May 18) every year in Canada.

I love natural history museums. L.A. has a good one and so does Denver
