Hello,

I plan to travel to Canada to see my finace in a few days. I have went there to see him a total of three times and I have never had any problem crossing and was never nervous like I am now. My question is this; When I cross into Canada, will the people at the border know that we are in the K1 process? Is this possible?

Just curious....

Thanks

Steph

Border crossings during the visa process are really only a potential problem for the intending immigrant. USC's ability to visit their foreign fiances are not impacted by the foreigner's visa process.

Tell them- you have no reason to lie.

Mel had no problems coming to see me- he said he was visiting his wife.

Thanks Stacey.. :)

I plan on being completely honest. Would not have it any other way. :)

I guess I'm just curious as to wether or not, the canadian side will know that we are in the K1 process.

*still curious*

I too always wonder what is in their computers, they seem to do a lot of typing :)

I would think if they did know- it would be easier on you.

If your fiancee has paperwork to immigrate to the US, I don't think Canada Customs would be suspicious that you are a person who plans on remaining in Canada.

When I was 21 and living in Montreal- I flew to New York one weekend to meet a friend there. It was my first time flying to the US. I had everything in an envelope- my ticket, boarding pass and $50 dollar bill to use for cab fare to the Hotel. Going through Customs, he asked me for my boarding pass and I handed him the envelope- he made a comment about the money ( I think he thought I was bribing him) I told him that was my cab fare to the hotel.

He asked a few basic questions and was typing and looking at his computer. then he asked if I had ever been convicted of a crime. I said no. He looked at his computer again and said "are you sure you've never been convicted of a crime?" I said no again and was wondering what the computer said. It bothered me. He let me through.

I have done lots of traveling since and never had any problems, but I still think about that incident every now and then.

No, Canada Border Officers do not have access to US computer systems, so they will not know unless you tell them. If you are worried that you will be denied enty into Canada based on your relationship and that the officer may doubt your visit intentions into Canada I suggest that you bring a copy of your finace intending US immigration application to use as proof that your fiance's intention is to immigrate to the US and that you are not planning on living in Canada. By no means is it required but it is good proof for you if you are worried about being denied into Canada.

Canada's borders are sooo lax.

When I lived there and my fiance was coming to visit me, one time they asked him if he liked hockey and that was it.

The last time I went back to get my stuff the guy at the border just asked us how long we planned on being in Canada for and then said: "Proceed" he didn't even check our passports.

Of course, every single person is different and we've just been lucky I guess.

If he had said he didn't like hockey- he would have been refused entry.

While we were going through the K-1 Visa process, my U.S. citizen fiance came to see me every single weekend, without any problems.

The Canadian border didn't care if we had a K-1 visa application pending, they are only concerned with the reason that the U.S. citizen is entering Canada. My fiance told them he was coming to visit his girlfriend, and was never given any trouble. They often asked him where he worked and what he did for a living just to make sure he intended to return to the U.S. after his visit.

USC here

I have driven to Canada from Arkansas four times this past year for two and three week stays with my fiancee. With the exception of Christmas, all I was ever asked was how long I was staying there and if I had anything that I shouldn't be bringing accross the border anyways. Christmas, I instructed to pull into the vehicle inspection area and told to go to the immigration officers. All they asked was what I did for a living; how long we were engaged; and if I planned on immigrating to Canada. Then sent me on my way. I was in and out in less than 5 min. I have been up there twice since she said yes.

I traveled to Canada several times during the K1 process to visit my then fiancé. I was questioned pretty close about my reasons once I told them truthfully I was there to visit my fiancé, not sure why I was questioned, but I was truthful. I was also told that I was only allowed to stay for up to 6 months. I showed them my itinerary to prove that I was leaving on the date posted. Other than that, no problems at all. As far as the CBP knowing about the petition status, I don't remember them saying anything to me about it although I'm sure when my passport was swiped they would've known. It's still no biggie to go see your sweetheart during this process. :)

you dont need to lie, just make sure you can show you have no intention of staying there. The K1 process means he is comming here. so that could be in your favor

He was trying to trick you into telling the truth, it is common for them to do that because like you said you dont know what he was looking at on the computer screen, for all you know he was reading an email from his wife. Stick with the truth in all situations.

you cant go wrong with it.

When I was 21 and living in Montreal- I flew to New York one weekend to meet a friend there. It was my first time flying to the US.
