It looks to me like that is a BDU top over that white t-shirt. Completely unauthorized. In a separate pic of him (on wiki), he is posing with his BDU sleeves rolled up. Only the Navy and Marines are authorized to roll their sleeves like that. AF and Army are not.

Macbeth is just a big-mouthed puzzy who couldn't make it through BMT. He is a disgrace. He isn't worth the bullet that he should be shot with.

I don't like it when anyone does it. But the left seems to like to castigate the military for their own political ends.

...and yet you don't get outraged when it's done by the Right??? Tell me when was the last time you criticized or condemned dirty politics from the Right?

Tahhh...I give up on this thread, Gary...somehow the whole point's been lost. I have faith that the American public knows the score when election time comes.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Yes, I hope the public does see the score when election time comes. The fact that the left will smear our own troops to further their own ends should be known.

You're drunk with delusion if you don't equate comparing a war veteran to Osama Bin Laden as smearing one of our fine soldier who lost both legs. Like I said, Gary - condemn all of it, or don't condemn any of it...anything less is hypocritical, selective outrage.

Show me this full page ad in the NY Times where we smeared a war veteran by comparing him to UBL.

Doesn't matter if you are a bleeding heart liberal or a bible thumping conservative. The major problems with this country and our two party system is the extreme whackos of both extremes ruin it for everyone else.

Couldn't agree more with this comment. But the same goes for anything, I suppose, be it race, religion, teenagers (hee hee), etc. The exremes ALWAYS ruin it for everyone else.

He's the one that talks about drug using dirt bags, but he's grinding oxycontin and snorting it, while taking a ton of other opiates.

There it goes again. Where in the world do you get that? He was addicted to oxycontin because of a back problem. It was never reported that he was snorting it while doing other opiates. The smear campaign on Rush is breathtaking. It just shows how much he pisses off the left and how much they fear him.

He doesn't piss me off, nor does he make me shake with fear. I think he's just an annoying old twit, so generally I ignore him. My dad was a die-hard southern Republican who did 3 tours of Vietnam. He couldn't stand Rush, and he also didn't think the US should have declared war on Iraq. He died before we actually formally entered the war, but he was always worried that it would happen, and he felt it was not for freedom, but for something else. I may never have served my country in the military, but the first 12 years of my life were spent on military bases. I have a lot of respect for the men and women who serve, but that doesn't mean that I think we should even be in this war. And I don't think that every soldier who opposes this war should be seen as a "phony soldier" which is the gist of what I got from Rush's comments.

Macbeth is just a big-mouthed puzzy who couldn't make it through BMT. He is a disgrace. He isn't worth the bullet that he should be shot with.

Does anyone else find his name to be full of significance and meaning, and a lot of humor? Or am I just too much of a literature nerd?

You're kidding, right? Gary, you know I think you're a decent guy, but please I wish you'd stop this delusional idealism of the Right as if they aren't 'as bad' as the Left when it comes to political antics. Dirty politics have been around for a long time...I don't like it either. I thought MoveOn.org Ad was in poor taste, BUT...I'm not going to go on a witch hunt and point fingers at one side and say, "See! I knew you guys were dirty to the core!" Some disgusting politics has been going on from both sides. I'd join you in your condemnation of all of it, if that's your position...but I'm gonna call you on it if you being selective about it.

Max Cleland Survived His Vietnam War Wounds. But He Has Yet to Recover From His Last Campaign Battle.

In his new job, Max Cleland is supposed to get young people all fired up with idealistic zeal for politics, but that won't be easy. These days, Cleland, a Georgia Democrat defeated in his bid for reelection to the Senate last fall, is angry, bitter and disgusted with politics.

"The state of American politics is sickening," he says.

Cleland has come full circle. In 1963, he arrived at American University's Washington Semester Program as a naive student and left dreaming of a career in the Senate. Now, after six years in the Senate, he's back at the Washington Semester Program, this time as a "distinguished adjunct professor.''

But he lost a few things along the way. In 1968, he lost his right arm and both legs in Vietnam. Last fall, he lost his Senate seat in a campaign that became a symbol of nasty politics.

Cleland, 60, is still livid over a now-infamous TV commercial that Republican challenger Saxby Chambliss ran against him. It opened with pictures of Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, then attacked Cleland for voting against President Bush's Homeland Security bill. It didn't mention that Cleland supported a Democratic bill that wasn't radically different.

"That was the biggest lie in America -- to put me up there with Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein and say I voted against homeland security!" he says, his voice rising in anger.

"I volunteered 35 years ago to go to Vietnam and the guy I was running against got out of going to Vietnam with a trick knee! I was an author of the homeland security bill, for goodness' sake! But I wasn't a rubber stamp for the White House. That right there is the epitome of what's wrong with American politics today!"

Well then this guy was wrong. But this is an isolated instance of a chopf##k rep where the dems make a living out of smearing our troops. You want me to post the quotes from ####### Durbin? You want me to post the quotes from Jack Mertha? The list goes on and on.

A 29-year-old former soldier currently living in Fort Worth has pleaded guilty in federal court to falsely claiming he was nominated for the nation's highest military award, the Medal of Honor.

Richard David McClanahan, 29, used his bogus status as a war hero in Amarillo to secure speaking engagements, scholarships and automobile financing, said U.S. Attorney Richard Roper of the Northern District of Texas.

McClanahan, who claimed to have special operations training and spectacular combat experience, supported his deception with fake nomination letters for the Medal of Honor from President George W. Bush and former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

He faces 31 years in prison and a $1.1 million fine.

Ex-GI faces 31 years in bank fraud, fake MoH

By Michelle Tan - Staff writer

Posted : Monday Aug 13, 2007 5:16:00 EDT

A former soldier charged with felony bank fraud and two misdemeanor counts of falsely claiming military awards or decorations pleaded guilty Thursday to two of the three charges against him, according to the prosecutor handling the case.

Richard David McClanahan, 29, admitted committing bank fraud and falsely claiming a Medal of Honor, said Christy Drake, the assistant U.S. attorney in Amarillo, Texas. As part of the plea agreement, she said, the prosecution dropped the other charge against McClanahan, in which he was accused of falsely claiming he had three Silver Stars, three Purple Hearts and the Legion of Merit.

The bank fraud charge carries up to 30 years in prison, while the maximum sentence for the Medal of Honor charge is one year in prison.

During about a 20-minute hearing, McClanahan appeared in U.S. District Court in Amarillo in front of federal district judge Mary Lou Robinson.

He admitted to knowingly making a false statement to a federally insured financial institution in an effort to get a loan, according to information in a factual resume Drake provided to Army Times.

The factual resume was read in court during the hearing.

McClanahan, who was an Army medic, also “continually lied about civilian life, military career, education and experiences” and he “displayed poor judgment by falsifying military documents,” according to the factual resume.

“He lied about his participation in Operation Enduring Freedom; he lied to his senior [noncommissioned officers], officers and commanders about his military service, combat injuries, decorations and awards; and he was incompetent and disregarded soldiers’ medical issues by writing and signing unauthorized medical profiles,” according to the factual resume.

McClanahan also admitted to falsely claiming he had a Medal of Honor.

The prosecution said that during the course of his misrepresentation of his military service, McClanahan received $9,500 in scholarship money and $2,000 in donations. He also tried to convince a local car dealership to give him a car because he had been nominated for the Medal of Honor, according to the factual resume. When the dealership declined to donate a car to him, that’s when McClanahan “grossly inflated” his income in his loan application to Amarillo National Bank, according to the factual resume.

Army records for McClanahan show he never received an award for valor, and his only overseas assignment, Army officials said, was a yearlong tour in South Korea from 2003 to 2004. McClanahan was kicked out of the Army for similar charges, spending time in prison and taking a reduction in rank and an other-than-honorable discharge on his way out, Army officials said. He was in the Army from 2001 to 2005 after a short stint in the Navy.

Drake said she didn’t know when McClanahan will be sentenced, but she estimated a sentencing hearing wouldn’t take place for six to eight weeks. Robinson has sole discretion in determining how much time McClanahan should spend behind bars, Drake said.

Based on the charges, the maximum penalties the court can impose on McClanahan include up to 31 years in prison, a fine of no more than $1.1 million and up to five years of probation, according to the plea agreement.
