Aministrative processing

My husband was finally given his interview on August 7, 2007 at the US Embassy in Amman. He was told by the counsulate that he will be given his visa but they need a letter from the Jordanian police for clearance. After he had given the Embassy the letter they then asked him for his passport and then after a week and a half they asked for his first passport and then they sent a letter telling him that his case has been sent to the Department of State for mandatory administrative processing. They said this will take an average of 3 months. That letter was dated on August 30, 2007. On Sept 23, the embassy contacted him and asked him for his passport again to just return it to him on Sept. 24 saying that the case still has to go through administrative processing and this will take an additional 3 months. Has anyone else had this happen to them and if so what was the outcome and how long did it take?
