My SO is from a different country

Hello everyone, I hope I'm in the right place... Anyway, I'm in the process of filing for a K-1 and my SO currently lives in Ghana (he's in school there) he's been in Ghana for several years he's legal there, on a passport. But, he's from Nigeria. I am petitioning for him through Ghana because he is still in school. Is this correct? I'm confused at where the process may lead us since he's not from that country. Any ideas, suggestions, anyone want to point me in the right direction (or just give me the finger... lol)? Thanks in advance...

You are correct, his current residence is Ghana, so can interview there.

Keep in mind your SO will need to get a Police Cert from both places for the interview.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

I'm an Aussie, living in London (also legally ;) ) and we're going through the London consulate... you shouldn't have a problem :)

as YuAndDan said though, he'll have to get a police certificate from both places - and anywhere else he's lived (for more than six months) in the last five years :)

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

Great, thanks to both of you for the information! I was pretty sure that it would be ok but wasn't positive that we didn't need something additional. So, I'll certainly make sure that he gets that done. Thanks again!

And also if the period of time in that country was for 6 months or more.

I believe the 5-year 'thing' you're referring to is the Employment & Residence History from the G-325A Biographic Information form... But keep in mind, the DS-230 (also Biographic Information) completed for the interview, asks for places of residence (of at least 6 months) since the age of 16.

Police certificates:

"Police certificates are required from every visa applicant aged 16 years or over for each locality of the country of

the applicant’s nationality or current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since

attaining the age of sixteen."

Cool! Thanks everyone, he's lived in Ghana for 3 years now so I will make sure that he gets one from Nigeria too. I noticed also when I wrote the topic of this, I really wasn't thinking... "my SO is from a different country"... aren't they all? LOL! Thanks for your help...
