I live just outside of Philly and I walk about 1.2 miles (divided between home-train station and train station-work and back again) and the commute by train is about 20 minutes.

We live in a small tourist town...population right at 25,000. Takes me 10 minutes to get to work, depending on traffic. My husband drives 20 minutes to work. We've learned when the traffic peaks are and leave a few minutes earlier. Lemme tell ya...leaving just one or two minutes later than I should can cause me to be late for work...traffic is horrendous!

I live in a small town, 5,600 people, and believe it or not we have NO public transport lol So people have to drive here. It takes me on average between 30-35 min to get to work. Takes Gary 25 min.

By car, it takes me 35-40 minutes to get to my workplace during commute hours, relieves me from undue stress (there's more stress waiting for me at work). I tried taking the bus and BART train and it takes me about an hour and fifteen minutes, that is if there are no delays in bus/train schedules. I reside in the SF Bay area.

Technically, W-DC is medium-sized city of roughly 560,000 (including suburbs, exurbs, ... but not Baltimore you get to 6.5 million; including Baltimore and environs, it hits 8.5 million).

W-DC metro area is quite notorious for long commutes. For me, it takes somewhat over 1 hour at best--don't even ask about worst-case.

I make it a rule to not have a commute of greater than 30 minutes. Any more is just another hour or more I've lost. I once had a commute of ten minutes walking. That was GREAT! Could sleep and never had to worry about the weather or traffic. It was a pleasure to go to work.

I used to drive to a place up on L.A. and if we didn't get on the freeway by 5:30 it was a two hour commute. Ugh
