Well, i'm resurrecting this post from the depths of the VJ servers to let you all know that we have filed our petition!

When I first posted back in September the road ahead looked quite daunting. So many of you responded to my posts and questions and I knew right away this place would be a lifeline for us! I've learned a lot in these 7 months! My divorce was FINALLY final on Monday and we sent the petition overnight on Tuesday! It was signed for by Paul Novak today at 1:15!

It's been such a long road for us already but we persevered and now we are on to the next chapter. Thank you all for your help and support to get us to this point! It means all the difference in the world to have the support to not only do this right but also just to know we are not alone.

Thanks again.

Congrats Kim on getting started! I hope your petition flies through Vermont!!! Good luck!!!!

Hope it's painless as possible also!

PS - Didn't you just love the thunk-ing sound of your package as it hit the bottom of the mailbox? Personally, I can still remember the sound......

Thanks rebecca!

After all the years of even trying to get to this point... the stress of my hard drive crashing the night before with all the info I needed all filled out and organized on it for months... trying to get my divorce decree... etc, etc, etc... I was extremely tired, my mind was all over the place the waiting line at the P.O. was incredibly long and I was super stressed...... but I couldn't wipe the smile off my face! ;) Once that package was mailed it felt like a HUGE weight had been lifted and a chapter of my life had FINALLY been closed and a new one opened. I'm not so easily swayed...but the proof of delivery... novak's siggy... it all STILL feels so good!!!

Thanks again.

It is kind of strange that from all the countries in the world US is the hardest to get in legally.

It's a pity that you couldn't get married while he was here, it would save you about 6 months and $550 :(

I keep my fingers crossed for you.

Well, if things had been different we could have saved over $60,000 in travel expenses..not to mention lost wages! :o Yeah...that one hurts! I was legally married up until this week so we couldn't have married anyway until now but yeah, it doesn't seem fair that you can't be together when you're in love. It's all these fraudulent cases that make it that much harder for all of us so I guess it's those people I take most issue with.

Oh well...such is life and we have no regrets as we had just an amazing start to our journey... able to see the world and having the opportunity to give my children the experience of living in other countries for a while. You can't put a price on those kinds of memories. :)

Regarding the government.... I know I certainly do my part in voicing my opinion now that i'm aware of how it all works. I've contacted my congresspersons and I take the time to educate all who are curious about the immigration process. I find most pople are totally clueless...as was I until it effected me. The most infuriating part to me is the disparity between the centers and the mis-managment of handling the influx of petitions they must have known was coming last year. There is no excuse for that! Something needs to be done/said. Afterall... that's what democracy is all about!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. We're hoping for a smooth and speedy process from here!
