So my husband goes yesterday to do the police certificate. They give him a sealed envelope, tell him not to open it and send him to another police department today. So when he goes to the police department and give them the envelope this morning....they put him in the car and take him off....telling him that he is a drug dealer and is wanted by the fbi and is going to jail. He was like #######...so they take him to another place (he didn't know how to translate the name of this place in English)...they put him in a room by himself and send the investigator in. The man then apologizes to my husband and says that it wasn't him that they wanted--someone has the exact same name as him--mothers same name....very similar and this man has been wanted since July for drugs. WOW....i am so confused and stunned I do not even know what to think....

How scary! Even though the names were familiar, did they even have a photograph of the real suspect? I am glad that everything turned out for the better or this could have created a problem later. The last thing you need is to clarify that your husband was falsely arrested for drugs.

any new news yet on your husband? The last I saw was that his file was at the nbc. Has it reached Amman yet?

I'm glad that worked out well for him...did they at least give him the etter on the spot so he could carry something for now that says he isn't their guy? I would want to make sure that couldn't happen again.

Jordanian Police are just great.

Someone calls them to break up a disturbance. So what do they do? Arrest some of the people who were causing the problem ... then take the person who called and toss them in a cell to "protect" him. Meanwhile, it's 100 degrees + outside, and they don't give him food or water. Lucky the family knew he was there & brought some for him.

Then - when they're going after someone in this same incident, they knock on the door... Q: "Is he home?" A: "No." Response: "Oh, ok. Bye." ( Note: The person in-question is home, sitting in the other room. )

Then when you're in the airport they won't let you have your half-used travel size toothpaste because it's dangerous. LOL! Oh yeah I feel safe. You do that, take my toothpaste.

Wow...they are truly something else....

They DID apologize and I think my hubby even tried to lighten the situation and him in the guy were laughing together in the end. He told the guy "look at me....i live in Zarqa...if i was a drug dealer, I would be living in Amman WITH a car"....lol....if any of u guys know about Zarqa--u will see the humor.

Thank god that it was all a mistake

And Maureen...we are still sitting at the NVC waiting to be transferred :)

Holy $#!T Cops only hang out at the traffice circles smoking all day and at night on the side of some deserted road. But now the Jordanian intelliigence department. They are second to none! They not only solve crimes fast they are tough on criminals! Could it be the dreaded Coke Bottles...I won't elaborate....you'll just have to ask your Jordanian spouses about that one ;-)

ETA: Glad all is ok with him.

It really sucks when our SO's have really different non american names. My husband has a very distinctive name. His cousin has the EXACT same name. He lives here in the US and he has shady business practices, not necessarily very illegal but he is all over the better business bureau's inventory of a$$holes. anyway because of HIM our taxes got audited like mad for two years straight. but we ended up getting money back because we overpaid! but we were sweating it out since my hubby is self employed and you never know what you can screw up with taxes. i think that the government just assumes it must be the person they are looking for because how many people can have that whacked out name!

:\

So our names are whacked-out?

Sure, I got some realatives with my *exact same name* - but now you know why people will know someone's paternal name to their great-great grandfather. The full-out name would be like 5-6 names long. :) I know my own to 5.

Zarqa ... bleh, I know of a person from Zarqa who sux. But I can see the humor in "I'd have a car." :P

Man, even a US citizen can't afford a car there - with their wonderful 100% tax on cars. Bleh. That's helping the economy.
