Just an update: we paid the fee. They were going to hold our stuff and charge us an additional fee if we didn't. Robinson's told me there was nothing they could do. I won't recommend them in the future to anyone. To add insult to injury we paid the fee and were told they'd arrive Friday afternoon. On Thursday evening at 7 pm we were having supper at my mother's and we got a call on my cell phone: the movers were at our house and wanted to dump the stuff then and there. My husband ran over to the house and the movers dumped 40 boxes into the house and refused to take any of it upstairs unless we paid them an additional $25. We had already paid to have them unpack our goods but at this point my husband told them to clear off and we spent the next few days unpacking, folding up boxes, and generally being really ticked off!

See my timeline for all previous dates!

Naturalization:

6/28/09: Mail N-400 to Texas

7/6/09: NOA1

7/24/09: Biometrics

10/08/09: Interview

11/21/09: Receive oath date

01/22/10: Oath Date

With thanks to all the helpful people who made this journey slightly more bearable.

yeah, that sucks.

who'd you have to pay the fee to? Robinsons or to US Customs?

Either way you should be getting that money back once you submitt the paperwork that proves you're not subject to customs fees.

When I moved, I came ahead of my belongings. the moving company had it in storage waiting to be packed into the truck once I sent them a copy of my I-94 and my activated visa (which you don't get of course until you have cleared the POE). I had already completed an inventory and the 3299 form, which the moving company gave me.

As soon as I got home I scanned the I-94 and passport stamp, then emailed the scans to the moving company and they loaded it up the next day and delivered it about a week or so later. They dropped and broke my TV :P but that was the only casualty, and they reimbursed me for that.
