The wait for the green card is after the couple is together, so the only down part for this is any travels we want to make to visit our families and all that.

I do hope more investigation wouldn't make our processes longer. Us poor souls trying to get to our soulmates.

And that has to be one of my biggest pet peeves. When I was young the internet as we know it did not exist, the resources for investigating an issue thoroughly were not readily or easily available, as such people depended on the media as their main source of information....which was not always accurate. Now we are blessed to have an incredible resource of readily available information right at our fingertips, medical reports, court documents, statistical research, historical research just plug it into google and off you go. We can research almost any issue presented to determine the validity of the information we are presented with and we can examine it from all sides of the issue, even the personal sides considering all the forums online. And what do people do with this wonderful tool we have, they blindly accept the media reports, base opinions on only that, and instead use this tool as nothing but a soap box to parrot the words the media feeds them as their proof.

It's not a tough line. More hoops are necessary since marriage fraud contributes to the overall problem.

It becomes tough when you have to go through it yourself though, wouldn't you agree? Families that are kept apart even longer will show more strains the longer the process is...not saying that the bonds aren't strong and genuine, but having a more stressful process isn't going to make the relationships any healthier.

Not if you are already married and filing for the CR-1...then the wait for the green card is after marriage and before you are together.

We ignore the schemes that are convenient. This loophole or legal recourse was adopted to deal with a specific set of circumstances but in reality, those people should have to go through the same process that we all do. They are essentially given legal amnesty for going outside of the process.

It's 3 years from the date of receiving LPR status if the LPR is still married to the U.S. citizen through whom the LPR is gained.

That's a different visa...the K-3 which is a non-immigrant visa for married folks just like the K-1 is a non-immigrant visa for fiance(e)s..except that the K-3 doesn't have to file for AP. The CR-1 applicant must be interviewed for their visa in their home country and travelling to the US can be a tad more difficult while awaiting that visa. The GC is issued usually a few weeks after the spouse enters the country.

Yes, the average American doesn't need much convincing about anything.....that's why this illegal immigrant debate is so dangerous. If the central argument is that Americans really do want these jobs, and that we are suffering because of it......what would happen if a study came out showing the types of jobs and average salaries of foreign spouses that go through it the legal way. What is to stop the American public from demanding that type of immigration be curtailed too in order to protect their jobs?
