Hi everyone

I'm going to be processing through the London consulate, just wondering about what is needed for the affidavit of support? I had it in my mind that 3 years of tax (w-2s) was needed, but the stories i've read about individuals exeperience at the interview stage in London all don't ask for 3 years proof. Most i've seen asked for was 1 year, and i've read a lot of stories (remember this is just at the London 1). My girlfriend (US) will possibly have 1 year at the most by the time of the interview and we have no option for a co-sponsor sadly.

I guess my question is... is 3 years tax compulsory? where does it say this? i've looked through the forms and guides and cant see where it says this?

Thanks, Ryan

Did you go ahead and read the instructions of the affidavit? I would advise you to do so if you have not done that yet.

I myself did not have the tax returnes (if you read the instructions it says that they only want it from people that are self employed) of course it is always good to have it with you though.

I only had a letter from the work employer that was it.

Hi, yes i did read the instructions, it said nothing about needing tax returns, but for some reason i was under the impression that 3 years was needed, am i wrong in this? I hope so!

ok just found this in the guides:

"While there are no specific income requirements listed in the I-134 form directions, you will be judged by the

same criteria as the I-864 form requirements when they are issueing the visa at the foreign US consulate, so

provide financial information for the I-134 with those guidelines in mind."

from the i-864 form it says:

"A copy of your individual Federal income tax return, including W-2s for the most recent tax year, or a statementand/or evidence describing why you were not required to file. Also include a copy of each and every Form 1099,Schedule, and any other evidence of reported income. You may submit this information for the most recent three taxyears , pay stub(s) from the most recent six months, and/or a letter from your employer if you believe any of theseitems will help you qualify."

ok so i gather 1 year is compulsory, 3 years may help but is not essential?

Thanks, Ryan

it doesn't request tax returns unless you are self employed, but it's safe to have it. People do lots of things in threes here just to be safe. So, it's just as easy to request three years of your tax transcripts as one, so just do it that way. In England, they probably won't even look at it.

No then you still did not read it properly.

Dont worry about the i-864 as you dont need that until you are actually married.
