POE Question

So far I've been getting very helpful answers. Some insightful, some umm helped out a little. Anyway, my question of the day is, when I return to America along with my wife, I will have connecting flight from JFK, New York -to- DTW,Detroit with a layover of 9+ hours in New York. My question is, will my POE be JFK then? OR will it be DTW? Does it make a difference as to whether I leave the terminal or not, or do I stay in the terminal if I want to designate DTW as my POE?

Your POE will be JFK because when you leave the plane, the 1st thing you'll see will be the immigration. It is always the case when a plane comes from a foreign country.

Then, you'll see the baggage claim/connecting flights and you can wait quietly.

On your flight from JFK to Detroit, as it is a domestic flight, the plane will park at a "domestic flight parking space" so that when you leave the plane, you won't see the immigration as no one will need it because it's a domestic flight.

You will also have to claim your luggage and go through customs at JFK. You will then recheck your luggage after customs.

Thanks for the helpful responses guys. This baggage claim and re-checking thing sounds like a PITA to me though, but heck if I gotta do it to be with my wife, then I'll do it.
