I can hardly wait to get my NOA2 (I am at day 145), so I can get back in line and wait for my petition to get to NVC. How insane is this process!!!!!!!!

Afterforever,

I hope you get your NOA2 REAL soon! I'm sending LOTS of luck your way. One thing is for sure - this process is a rollercoaster of emotions and a true test of patience.:wacko:

Thank you very much. I have been through some hardcore experiences in my life but this one has definitely kicked my butt.:blink:

Yup I sympathise with your fiance Musicgirl.... I'm the foreign fiancee and I was made redundant at the beginning of this month, but don't want to sit around doing nothing in case the process is delayed and I run out of money! Trying to figure out what temporary job to take, or to answer an agency who asks what length of contract I'm looking for, is a really hard question... Also, seeing as my fiance (who's in the US) is on SS benefits for severe back pain, I'm figuring that ONE of us should be working when I go for my interview, otherwise it might not look too good..... right? Anyone else got advice/experience of this?

Oh StoryAngel, that does sound like a tough situation for you guys. Do you know how long it takes for your consulate to schedule interviews? You can estimate five weeks to get to the NVC and then maybe one or two weeks to get to the consulate...then add in the time for the interview. Hopefully you can get some short-term assignments. Good luck!!

About the financial situation, let's think this through - all the consulate needs to know is that there are enough funds available to take care of the both of you, at least until you are able to work. So, as it gets closer to your interview, I would map out a financial statement. Show how much your fiance receives each month from SS and if he has any savings. You might want to show what his normal salary is from his work, and when he might be able to return. And then add to that anything you might be contributing. Then try to estimate what your combined monthly expenses will be. This way you can show them your true financial situation. If you are above the established poverty level, I doubt you will have any problems. I'm an accountant, if you couldn't tell  But, I truly believe if you are able to show that there are enough funds for the both of you, you will be just fine.

Is the processing time through NVC only long for petitions from CSC, or is it long for VSC also?

Well, looking at the timelines, it's longer for CSC right now. But, there haven't been as many approvals from VSC lately, so it's kind of hard to say. The people who have gotten approved from VSC have gotten to the NVC faster though. If you go to Immigration Timelines, and then under Visa Display Options, select "View K1 Visas". Then, click on "enable advanced mode". From there you can sort by "NVC Received" (click that little down arrow) and you can see the recent statistics. There hasn't been a whole lot of activity lately though :(

From what I've seen, there's only a delay with CSC, VSC (although approvals are slow) seems to be mailing cases off right away after approval.

I just called NVC and our case arrived on 10/15 and left today 10/17. Thank God! I hope this sheds a little light on the wait time. We were approved on 9/10.

It took about 2 weeks give or take for CSC to get the petition over to NVC but once it was there it took 2 days for them to get it processed and shipped off to the embassy.

I don't like to say 'be patient' because after what all of us have been through with this whole BEING patient thingy it's hard to keep hearing it so I will say this instead, IT WILL HAPPEN! :)

In the meantime start looking into what you need for Packet 3 so you can have that all ready to go, wish I had. We've had Packet 3 for awhile and have come across all kinds of red tape trying to get certain forms and such. So save yourself some grief now and get the necessary paperwork ready to go!

Ever Hopeful,

Annette

Is 2 weeks the norm for the time it takes for the approved petition to get from the USCIS service center to the NVC? Also, can you use the automated NVC phone system to accurately check the status of your case, or is it better to speak with someone in person? I have been checking the system by following the automated prompts, but would like reassurance that the voice system has the most up-to-date information about my case.

When calling NVC TALK TO A PERSON! Your petition isn't there long enough to register on the automated service so make sure you talk to someone, a real someone and don't feel badly about calling often!

Hello All You Wonder-Full Fiancés/Fiancées,

I have to say how admirable some of you are.

So kind and loving.

And truly, we all need lots of lovin' here, in this inhumane process.

My good news is that I left Vancouver to come back to my birth town of Montreal, to start our K1, and my precious fiancé visits quite often from Chicago.

We got our NOA1 April 27th CSC

and our NOA2 approval email came September 13th.

I called the NVC last week, and today my honey called USCIS and the NVC.

Last week I got a rude woman saying, "You have to allow 90 days...blah blah blah" to which I regret not answering with this, "Have you ever been in love?"

I have worked in customer service my whole life, regardless of what work I've done; it's always about the customer.

And so, if I had to deliver bad news, I would never presume that I'm talking to a robot (with no feelings).

I would be so kind and so understanding that that human being on the other end of the phone is hurting for clear information.

The fact that answers change like the wind, is disconcerting.

My fiancé's conversation went like this today:

45 minutes on the phone to USCIS to find out that they have a mail service with the military. Mail (petitions) get flown to Vermont from CSC, and then driven to New Hampshire's NVC. THE MILITARY?! I really think they are using a donkey, well actually, no, a donkey would have gotten there already.

He had no luck getting a human being on the phone with NVC this afternoon.

So to reiterate:

NOA2 from CSC was September 13.

It has been thirty-four days! and no NVC notification.

As it is, getting the RCMP (police) check here in Canada I've read will take 4 months, and getting an interview with the Consulate here will take 4-7 months. So...tic toc tic toc.

Phew...okay I'll get off my soap box for a moment.

It sure was good to vent this. I feel a tiny bit better.

VisaJourney forum = great therapy.
