Is there any specific link where it shows the poverty guidelines, how much I need to make per year? I just graduated from college and am starting a full time job very soon. But I won't have a W-2 or a full year in when I file. Should I simply file with my mother as a co-sponser. I don't want to get denied because of my lack of finances and recent hirings.

Furthermore, if I file in October/November will I even have to turn in my financial papers before I get my W-2? I will have my W-2 at the end of the year, it just won't show a full year's income as I haven't had the job a full year yet. I feel like if this were a more personal process I could explain myself better. Things can seem so different when it is all through paperwork.

2007 Poverty Guidelines.

If you're concerned that you may not make the poverty guidelines, you should file with a co-sponsor. Trying to add a co-sponsor later will result in frustrating delays.

I'm pretty sure I'll make the poverty guidelines. I'm working right now, not even full time and am very close to making it. And I've applied for several full time positions. In short, I'll be working 2 jobs, one full time and one part time. I've read posts about being denied or almost being denied because of lack of finances, not a big enough bank balance, not owning your own home, etc. Has anyone heard of this? Is meeting and/or exceeding the poverty level enough?

Thanks moxcamel! I see you're going through Russia. Though neither of us are from there, my fiance and I met in Moscow! :-)

Heh, you know there are easier ways to meet a Kiwi. :)

Haha, so I've heard. Everyone here says, "You went all the way to Russia to meet a kiwi?"

Where in Russia is your fiance from? I lived in St. Petersburg for 4 months in 2005.

She's from Kazan. If it all goes south maybe I'll head over to Moscow and find me a cute little Kiwi. :)

Have you sent in your visa petition yet? How far along are you? We're waiting on my job and his police certificates before we send all in. I'm getting really anxious. I just want to get it in there, the quicker it's there, the quicker he's here. We're trying to plan our wedding for next October so barring big problems we'll be alright and ready then. It's just frustrating as I'm sure everyone knows here.

P.S. If you do go to find yourself a kiwi, I'll give you the name of the hostel we met in. haha Are you learning Russian?

I'm still very early in the process. My timeline is here. You know you don't need the police certificates to file the K-1 petition. In fact, you don't even need a job at this point. If you meet the criteria for the K-1 petition, you might want to start putting it all together now and get it submitted. It's taking longer and longer for the petitions to be processed, so the earlier the better. Take a look at the K-1 guide, linked here.

P.S. If you do go to find yourself a kiwi, I'll give you the name of the hostel we met in. haha Are you learning Russian?

LOL thanks. I think at this point I'm thoroughly addicted to Russian women. Actually I'm just addicted to one particular Russian woman. (way to cover my a** there!) :)

My Russian is getting better, but still очень плохо. :)

Been there done that, have the divorce decree to prove it. :)

I'm having trouble getting the petition to download. My computer keeps telling me that the file is broken and can't be repaired. Is it just my laptop or is the link down?

And I bet your Russian will be great soon. She'll teach ya. :-) My fiance and I chatter back and forth po-russky.
