i read that the NOA could be used to apply for my driving permit. Is this really true? and what is the form called? By the way, i am in California.

Some states will accept the NOA1 as evidence of legal presence, most do not.

Driving privileges are a State's rights thing, and it is up to the states to decide what resident evidence is required to apply for driving privegles.

Fisrs place for your to look is your state's DMV website.

Only thing universally required by all states is an SSN, but other residential evidence varies by state.

California says "Notice of Action (I-797 Approved Petition)" this would be NOA2 the WELCOME LETTER for green-card.

Nope, you will need to wait for the EAD. I went round and round with the CA DMV.

SSN is not always required. Cheryl got her Montana license without it.

So that means that i will have to wait for the approval of my AOS before i get a driver's license. How about the driver's learning permit? does it require the same? i am bit confused as i went tru the website info. i understand that with the driver's learning permit i could at least start learning to drive here of course with my husband. its so hard feeling stuck! :crying:

If you filed for AOS after July 30, you are entitled to file for EAD (I-765) at no additional charge, you may get EAD within 90 days of filing for EAD, at that time you can use the EAD or Green-Card to apply for a learner's permit.

Please do a timeline, it helps others understand where you are in the Immigration process.
