You don't need a green card to apply for SSN. Just go to a local SS office, bring your pasport with you. They will make you fill in a form and you are all set. You will gt your SS card in mail in a couple of weeks.

When you apply for AOS (you don't need to wait until your visa expires, apply as soon as you get married) they will send you a notice confirming they received your application and that it is pending. That's your proof of status until you get a green card.

You need a K-1 with Valid I-94 card to apply for SSN. SSA wont issue an SSN if the I-94 has less than 2 weeks validity left, at that point you will need EAD card, or Green-Card to apply for SSN.

There is a guide explaining this: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...om&page=ssn

Your visa was voided at the POE when you entered the USA, the I-94 expires 90 days after entry, once you apply for AOS you will receive a receipt for the AOS petition (NOA1) this is proof that you have legal status while waiting for AOS to complete.

I-94 is a card that you fill out either on the plane flying into the USA, or at the POE, the officer at the POE keeps part of it and staples part of the card in your passport, next to the K-1 visa.
