Today I got some sad news, a dear friend of mine who has been going through this visa process has decided to give up the journey. I couldn't believe it. She told me her and her husband has agreed to go there seperate ways because she's tired of waiting for a visa to be issued to her husband. She told me this could go on forever and she is not willing to go on like this indefinitely. She has been waiting for two years. I was so sorry to hear this news. I'm wondering does this happen quite a bit during the visa wait??? I can't seem to wrap my brain around this process causing the divorce of two wonderful people. Any thoughts anyone?

Wow! That's so incredibly sad! I think if I got so hopeless I'd just move to Ghana to be with Bassi there. We wouldn't split up.

Immigration Hell, I hope your friends can work something out that will keep them together. I am sorry for them and I am sure that they are not the first nor will they be the last to suffer at the hands of USCIS.

Sharon and I are very deep in thought about giving up the process also but not leaving each other. There are many factors involved and our denial and I-601 didn't help very much to make things easier. We should have been together by now and we are looking at 12 to 18 months apart without a guarentee of aceptance in the future. Our future right now depends entirely on Sharon's job and how things go there since today is her first day back after enduring many months due to family issues.

This is too sad. The immigration process should bring our loved ones together, and not go through this whole ordeal of being separated. Two years seem to be a long wait. However, I believe that your friend should work it out with her spouse. I'll say a prayer for them both.

Hi IH,

I haven't seen that many postings on VJ that indicate this - but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen often.

My personal opinion is that it doesn't. Immigration can't dictate your decisions or your life. I think most people understand this. If you have found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with nothing will tear you apart.

That said, I know that this process has to be absolute hell for some people - I know it is because I have seen their stories. I can see that in their cases they might go through a period where they just say 'enough'.

I hope your friend will get past this (if she truly wants to be with the other person). Once she has had time to reflect she may find that she doesn't really want to give up and they will find a way to work it out.

I would not blame them. This process is sure a hell and it depends where are you stuck. Basically, there are three monsters that we have to dealt with. CIS, NVC, and finally the consulate. I have been married for almost four years and had thought about this several times, but then, I also think about my wife and what will be the consequences of doing this. I am just getting through all these hells.

can you folks believe?? My consulate is in Pakistan and after the NVC finishes the case and it reaches there, it takes them 6 months to schedule an interview for CR1/IR1. Now that is outrageous. But I will hang in there no matter what? But this whole thing has really pissed me off.

What is the situation of your friend?? Did her husband have an interview???

Well, what can I say? We are going through this living hell ourselves but the only thing that keeps us going is our strong bond. Maybe, your friend doesn't share the same bond with her hubby which comes after a lot of patience, maturity and understading of each other's worth...

If it makes your friend feel better, let her know other ppl are going through it too...we literally turned our lives upside down for thsi visa and even after the interview and visa approval we haven't received the visa as it's stuck in s.clearance for over seven months now..so we have been stuck in this process for more than 2.5 years now...For this visa, I moved back to the US, found a job, worked like an animal, made a position for myelf, studied hard for everything and now that I am financially independent and doing good, the visa is still not in sight. SO, fianlly, we have decided that we'll not ruin our lives due to this visa anymore and I am moving back to Canada to live with my husband in January...of course I'll have to start all over again but we are both willing to do anything for each other...splitting apart is not a solution...love conquers every hardship...

Thanks,

Kiny

I am so sorry to hear this......I know that it is hard to be away from the one that you love for such a long time......Maybe for some people its just to hard and it is understandable........However before they make that decision I would ask them to try and see where their case is? They could approve it anytime......It could be just right around the corner and how bad would they feel if that was the case and they gave it up just one or two days early? If you are truely in love with someone and they are the one that you are meant to spend the rest of your life with you would walk through fire for them and fight as hard as you could and not give up........Yes 2 years is a long time but if they are into that far why turn back now????? I hope they give it more time if she truely loves him the way a wife loves her husband she will give it more time
