Hi Everyone!!

I'm a new to the topic and this forum, so please be patient!!

I need some quick answers to give to my fiance. Currently, we are both in England- I am studying abroad and he is a citizen and lives here. I go back to the United States (Idaho) in August, and would like to announce then a tentative date for a wedding to my family. I am hoping that it will occur in June of 2007, is it possible (or likely) to get the K-1 visa sorted for him by then?

Also, he will be quitting his job here in London to come live with me permanently in the United States, does this pose problems for showing evidence of financial support?

We are confused on another point as well- I understand that you have to file more forms to allow the person to stay permanently in the US after marriage. Are the necessary documents difficult to get accepted? Once they are received and approved, is the person then treated as if he were a US citizen- specifically I mean, will he be able get a US job, obtain financing, live in a rental property etc? I think the answer to that question is probably yes, but I would just like to confirm that with people who know for sure.

This forum is really great. Thanks for your help!! :)

not sure about all your questions but I can say this.

1. I wouldn't EVER Set a date before you KNOW your visa is approved. It's just asking for trouble. There are no guarantees - little things could set you back months - and making deposits or telling family members ahead of time...i wouldn't...

2. His income has nothing to do with your financial support - it's all on YOU, the USC, and your income or your co-sponsor.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

Hi Welcome to Vj

Here's the link for the the K1 guide. It'll give you an idea of the time frame involved. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...tom&page=k1flow

You are correct in thinking that your fiance will have to apply for permanent residency after you are married. When you apply to adjust status residency is granted for 2 years after the two years is up he has to apply for permanent residency. A tentative wedding date for June 2007 should be ok but dont book anything until he has his visa in hand. The k1 process takes a minimum of 7 months if you are lucky.

Good Luck
