I just got an automated update on the NVC system that said:

"The NVC has reviewed your packet of forms and found information missing or incomplete on your financial information

the NVC mailed a checklist for correction on Sept. 22, if it has been more than 4 weeks since we mailed this and you have still not received it" - etc

I just sent the DS-230 out yesterday (shortcut cut method)

Do you think this is the odd " shortcut error" or do you think real info. is missing?

they've been reviewing the I-864 for almost two weeks before I got this update.

Missing information means the DS230. If you just submitted your DS230, expect for your message to change "we have received your checklist packet of information on______" after 7-10 days.

Good luck!

You know, this is interesting.

If you get the 'false' checklist message it is identical to the 'real' checklist message.

I think there is no way to be sure if a real checklist is being sent out unless you call the NVC and speak with an operator.

 Yes thats right. One thing you want to ask NVC is whether they have completed reviewing your I-864 and found no problems with it, before we assume that the missing information is indeed for the DS230 submission.

I just got this message today. It was a real RFE. When I called the operator, the reason given was:

On I-864A, the tax data income shown is adjusted gross income, not total income. Please correct, re-sign, and return.

Now, this is a rather bizarre RFE twist, because:

(1) If you filed Form 1040EZ, they want adjusted gross income shown, but if you filed Form 1040, they want total income (before adjustments) shown.

(2) Form I-864 & Form I-864A both showed adjusted gross income (which still was above the 125% poverty level), and it was a joint tax return, yet they only want the Form I-864A corrected and returned (re-signed by both however)?

Finally, they say I must wait to receive their checklist before I can send the corrected form back in.

Any thoughts about any of this?

Hi Chris,

So the I-864A shows adjusted gross income and they filed 1040EZ, so you are saying that according to their instructions it is already correct?

No, the instructions for I-864 & I-864A (but not the form itself) say to show the total gross income line value from the tax returns, except if you filed 1040EZ, then you must show adjusted gross income. On the forms, they just mention adjusted gross income, hence the confusion when I filled it out.

We filed 1040 but gave matching adjusted gross income values on both I-864 & I-864A (both are based on the same joint return, the value is still above 125% of poverty level). They want the I-864A corrected only. I don't get it, but I guess I just have to wait for the form to come back in the mail and then do only what they say?

I agree it seems unusual that they only want the I-864A corrected.

Yes, all you can do it wait for the checklist. It took us 9 days to receive the checklist (mailed to Canada). They received it back on September 10th and acknowledged receipt of checklist on the 13th. Up until yesterday all I got was the 'we have received your checklist' auto message (now I have a message for another checklist for the DS-230).

So basically I'm not 100% sure how long it took them to process the checklist for the I-864 - it has now been accepted, a week and a half later - so shouldn't be longer than that.

All in all it takes 1. Mailing time to you. 2. 3 days or so for them to acknowledge receipt once they get it back. 3. A week and a half or so for them to review. (Based on my experience only of course). :)

turns out that my RFE was real too...

I need to send in a copy of my birth cert. to show proof of relation to my father ( for the I-864A).

My message said that a checklist was SENT on the 22nd (Saturday?) ....do they even mail on saturdays?

for those of you that heard an actual date on the automated system, was it really posted/mailed on that date or just generated?

I was so close to finishing, and they stick me with this...

The message said they had sent my checklist on August 21st - and the letter that I received with the checklist was dated August 21st.

I received it on August 30th (mailed to Canada).

I also found the date on the message - mailed you DS-230 - was the date on my letter that accompanied my DS-230.

I would hazard a guess and say the date on the message is the 'real' date that it is produced.

That said, with my DS-230 - while it was generated on the 20th of August the postmark on the envelope was 2 weeks later - September 4th - but hopefully it doesn't normally take them 2 weeks to mail anything.

I agree it seems unusual that they only want the I-864A corrected.

Only things I can think of are: (1) The sponsor's individual income on I-864 is $0, so maybe they dont care about the tax data in that case?, or (2) the tax transcript attached to I-864 is the hard-to-read computer printout version, while the tax transcript attached to the I-864A is the prettier version, maybe they just didn't want to try reading the harder transcript version (even though the numbers are all the same, it is the same return)?
