It takes upwards of 9 months from the day your petition arrives at CDJ to be given an interview date. This is accurate information and is coming from CDJ themself, and is being experienced firsthand by Elvia.

Well...like you said...what goes around comes around...too much abuse in the past tends to slow down an embassy. I think the Phillippines, Peru, Pakistan have an idea what long interview wait times are all about.

That there is one of the ironies of the whole mess! Illegal aliens can come over here, have kids, and their kids are US Citizens!

If you had to follow the law, the parent, or parents, would be deported, and either the kid goes into a foster home or goes with the parents.

But not to worry, when the kid is old enough, they can petition their parents!

I'm not saying either... I said according to the law, those would be the options, neither of which make much sense, but neither does giving citizenship to a baby born in the US to illegal immigrants!

This is a classic loose loose situation. Bottom line, if the parents weren't here illegally, they wouldn't be having children here either. Stop the illegal immigration, stop the problem. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.

But then again, while we're at it YES... change the damn law! Do not grant citizenship to children whose parents can't prove they are here legally.

It doesn't make sense, but the problem is not with the law, but an incorrect interpretation of the law.

The 14th Amendment:

Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

The 14th Amendment was intended to ensure that former slaves could not be denied citizenship. It was NOT intended to grant citizenship to the children of foreign nationals. The way the amendment has been interpreted ignores the phrase "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof." Children of aliens are subject to the jurisdiction of their parents' home countries.

The answer is not to change the law, but to properly interpret it.
