Does birth certificate translastion need to be certified?

Hi, I read the AOS Guide. However, I cannot tell if the translated copy of the intending immigrant's birth certificate needs to be certified in any way. Does the translator need any kind of special credentials, or need to be a "certified: translator? Thank You.

Standard USCIS translation "certification" is needed. The standard is simply that the translator is competant in both languages. No official recognition or credential required. No different than any other translation you would have provided the USCIS in any previous filing

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

Can be a friend who is fluent in both languages.

I did our's and just gave the certification statement above ... no RFE and he now has his GC.

My lawyer said it wa best if someone other than myself did it. I had mine notorized.
