well think about it realistically. We ARE facing higher and stricter security measures, whether we like it or not its the fallout of 9/11 and its aftereffects. If you take into account that most of highjackers were here legally on visas the terms of which were often not followed and certainly not followed up with, that at least a couple of the highjackers were actually ON some of the watchlists but not all and there were no procedures in place to cross check, then you better believe the pendulum is swinging the other way and every possible department is doing every possible check and double check. No government agency wants to be the one with 'egg on their face' if ever there were another hideous terrorist incident inside the country. I think its the price any of us pay for falling in love with an Arab man and we should expect from the getgo to be subjected to extra scrutiny. I dont think its a matter of not wanting to issue a visa.

Does this mean its not frustrating or often heartbreaking to be apart? of course not, I remember it well. I waited 8 months for my then fiance to get here and at the time it seemed like the longest 8 months of my life. The state department, various consulates and various security agencies are so disorganized and littered with misinformation and conflicting answers that it if it werent so upsetting for some of us its almost laughable. The best any of us can do is try to hang in there and encourage each other through the tough times and in your case all you can do is continue to explain as best you can to your husband. I know for a while it was almost impossible for my husband to beleive that bureaucracy inside the US is as insane and disorganized as it is, how can that be inside the last great SUPERPOWER in the world?? ( of course, that was before he got here and had a run in with the DMV.... )

and finally, again not that its too much comfort but there ARE other areas that also have a tough time with AP and AR and getting visas. Phillipines, Thailand, some of the former Soviet countries come to mind right now and strangely enough it seems from reading the boards that Montreal is a tough consulate to get through! so its not ONLY us MENA folks....

just HANG IN THERE! the visa will come and at some point all of this will fade into a dull but irritating memory.
