Question about UK police report

I didn't know about this discussion area and posted in the general section, but I think this is the betetr place. Anyway...

My fiancee sent off the form to get her police report from Scotland Yard about 2-2 1/2 weeks ago.

She has her packet from the embassy prepared and we're wondering if she should go ahead and tic off that she has the police report and send in pages 1-4 for the embassy packet along with the DS forms now, or just send the DS forms for now.

Has anyone here had delays getting the police report? It looks like it's about 30 days from sending in the packet to getting the interview, so according to the UK law, she should have the report by then.

She's pretty stressed and worried about this whole process, so I thought I'd ask to see how long on average it's taken people to get the police report back.

Thanks,

Tom

Hello there. :) I've heard about several people going ahead with the checklist before actually receiving the police report, and I haven't heard of a case where it didn't work out for them. Almost everyone finds that it takes the full 40 days to get the letter, but I don't believe I've ever read about anyone waiting more than a couple days over 40 days for it.

If I were her, I would strike a compromise. I would wait until the start of next week and then send everything off as if I already had the police report.

I think Bruce's took 36 days from the date on the receipt. I had a thread going on whether it was 40 calendar days or business days, and the VJers set me straight -- it's calendar days. Go for it!

I have read of a couple of people not being able to take the police report with them to the interview as they hadn't received it yet. All that happens is that they are approved (if everything else is in order) pending police certificate. Once you get the certificate you then send it on to the Embassy.

Just a quick point to note, it is 40 days from the receipt the police force normally sends out, not 40 days from when you post in the application. All in all I always say allow at least 8 weeks, as the receipt can often be dated anything up to three weeks after you posted it in.

Hi,

My fiance's been waiting for his police report, and I saw this thread and was wondering, do most people receive a receipt from the police? It's almost been 40 days since he posted it, so I wasn't too worried yet, but he didn't get anything saying they had it. Did most people get something saying the police at least had the application?

Thanks!

I-129F sent 7/2007

I-129F approved 2/2008

Marriage: 5/3/08

AOS:

I had to post mine off to West Yorkshire Police as they don't accept applications in person. Three days later I received a receipt from them and confirmation of processing times (40 days). If your fiance applied in person at his local police station he should have received a receipt on the day.

Thanks for the answer. Wasn't what I wanted to hear but good to know. Turns out, that yes, his app was lost in the post, despite the fact that he had sent it Special Delivery! They have it now, but of course it's 40 more days, when he initially sent it in December!! So frustrating, but so helpful to have known that without a receipt there was a problem. Thanks!
